Food Specialist / Dishwasher / Cashier
Location: USCG Training Center, Yorktown, Virginia
The USCG Training Center in Yorktown, Virginia is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Food Specialist/Dishwasher/Cashier to support daily galley operations. This position plays a vital role in maintaining sanitation standards, ensuring efficient meal service, and providing courteous customer service in a fast-paced culinary environment. The ideal candidate is a team-oriented professional with strong time management skills and a commitment to food safety and service excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Dishwasher / Scullery Responsibilities
- Ensure the availability of clean dishes, cookware, and utensils by washing plates, flatware, pots, and pans.
- Prepare the kitchen for upcoming shifts by cleaning and restocking supplies as needed.
- Clean and maintain kitchen equipment and appliances, including ovens, mixers, and dishwashing machines.
- Sweep and mop kitchen floors, particularly in response to spills or broken items.
- Remove trash regularly and thoroughly clean trash receptacles.
- Assist kitchen staff with additional tasks as required.
- Promptly report kitchen accidents or violations of food safety standards.
- Accurately record hours worked by clocking in and out daily using the ADP system.
- Attend all mandatory training sessions and staff development meetings.
Cashier Responsibilities
- Process customer payments for food and beverage purchases accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain a clean, organized checkout area and restrooms.
- Ensure all pricing, forms, and documentation comply with USCG requirements.
- Address customer questions or concerns professionally and provide accurate information as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimal work experience required.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8-hour shifts).
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds overhead.
- Willingness to comply with all food safety standards and operational procedures.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid Virginia Food Handler’s Safety Training Certificate
- Must successfully complete and be cleared through a Virginia health physical
- Must be eligible for service clearance at a USCG facility.

Compensation and Scheduling
- Pay Rate: $21.74 per hour
- Shift Lengths Available: 2.5, 3, 5.5, 8.5, and 9 hours
- Weekly Schedule: Monday through Friday
- Weekend Shifts: Available at Forrest Rednour Hall (Galley)
- Employment Status:
- Full-time: 30 hours or more per week
- Part-time: 16 hours or fewer per week
