Job Description

Civeo Australia is seeking an experienced Food Safety Specialist to join our HSQE team, based in Brisbane with regular site travel to site throughout Queenland’s Bowen Basin.

This role plays a critical part in strengthening food safety systems across our operations, acting as a subject matter expert and driving continuous improvement in food safety performance, compliance, and culture.

Reporting to the General Manager HSQE, you will design, implement and continuously improve food safety strategies aligned with regulatory requirements and organisational objectives. You’ll partner closely with operational teams to identify and mitigate food safety risks while embedding a strong food safety culture across sites.

This suits a proactive and technically strong food safety professional who thrives in operational environments and enjoys influencing positive change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the operational Subject Matter Expert for food safety across the business
  • Develop and execute food safety strategies aligned to legislation and business goals
  • Drive continuous improvement of the Food Safety Management System (FSMS), including HACCP and ISO 22000
  • Conduct audits, inspections and investigations into complex food safety incidents
  • Develop validation, monitoring and corrective action processes for critical control points
  • Design and deliver engaging food safety and compliance training
  • Mentor and coach operational teams to strengthen food safety capability and awareness
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Report on food safety performance and recommend improvements to senior management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology or a related discipline
  • Auditor qualifications (HACCP / ISO 22000) highly desirable

Skills and Experience

  • 3–5 years’ experience in food safety leadership or specialist roles
  • Strong working knowledge of HACCP, ISO 22000 and food safety legislation
  • Food Safety Supervisor certification highly desirable
  • Experience designing and delivering training programs
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and coaching skills
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail and continuous improvement focus
