We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Food Safety Coordinator to support and coordinate food safety and regulatory compliance activities across our fresh produce operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory, and industry food safety requirements while supporting growers, warehouses, logistics partners, and internal stakeholders. About the Role The Food Safety Coordinator is responsible for coordinating food safety and compliance programs across supply chain operations. This includes managing customer compliance portals, maintaining supplier and facility documentation, supporting food safety audits, overseeing traceability and recall readiness activities, and ensuring all records, certifications, and compliance requirements remain current and audit-ready. Please note that this role focuses exclusively on food safety and regulatory compliance. Product quality inspections, grading, condition assessments, and quality claims management are managed separately. Key Performance Outputs Customer Compliance & Portal Management Manage customer food safety and supplier compliance portals. Maintain accurate and up-to-date food safety documentation, certifications, audits, questionnaires, policies, and insurance records. Track certification renewals, document expirations, and submission deadlines. Coordinate customer onboarding, supplier approvals, and facility qualification requirements. Respond promptly to customer food safety requests and compliance enquiries. Act as the primary U.S.-based food safety liaison, coordinating customer requirements with compliance teams in Peru and Mexico. Warehouse Food Safety Compliance Support the qualification and ongoing compliance of warehouses and distribution facilities. Review certifications, audit reports, sanitation programs, pest-control documentation, temperature monitoring records, and traceability procedures. Coordinate warehouse food safety assessments and follow-up actions. Work closely with warehouse operators and logistics partners to address compliance risks and verify corrective actions. Supplier & Facility Documentation Maintain food safety documentation for suppliers, warehouses, and supply chain facilities. Monitor certification validity, audit status, corrective actions, and customer approval requirements. Ensure all documentation remains accurate, accessible, and audit-ready. Follow up on outstanding, expired, or incomplete records. Audits & Corrective Actions Support customer, regulatory, third-party, and internal food safety audits. Coordinate audit preparation, documentation, scheduling, and responses. Track non-conformances and corrective actions through to closure. Assist with root cause analysis and preventive action verification. Traceability & Recall Readiness Maintain traceability and recall programs across fresh produce operations. Coordinate trace-back and trace-forward exercises involving growers, packing facilities, warehouses, and customers. Support mock recalls and actual recall activities when required. Identify and address traceability gaps to strengthen compliance. Training & Reporting Support food safety training initiatives across operational teams. Prepare compliance reports, certification trackers, audit summaries, and corrective action reports. Escalate food safety risks, overdue actions, and compliance concerns appropriately. Assist with additional compliance-related duties as business needs evolve. Requirements What You'll Bring Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Microbiology, Agriculture, Environmental Health, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 2 to 4 years of food safety, regulatory compliance, or related experience within the fresh produce industry. Experience working with growers, packinghouses, cold storage facilities, warehouses, distribution centres, or logistics providers. Proven experience managing customer compliance portals, certifications, supplier documentation, and customer requests. Experience supporting audits, corrective action programs, traceability exercises, recalls, or mock recalls. Bilingual English and Spanish is highly desirable. Technical Knowledge Strong understanding of FDA, FSMA, HACCP, GMP, GAP/GHP, sanitation, food defence, food fraud, traceability, and recall requirements. Knowledge of GFSI-recognized certification schemes such as PrimusGFS, SQF, BRCGS, and GlobalG.A.P. Experience reviewing warehouse food safety programs and compliance records. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint. Ability to maintain organized records and manage audit-ready documentation. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to facilities as required. Key Competencies Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
