Sodexo is seeking a Food Operations Manager 2 to join our team at UNC Health Wayne Memorial Hospital, a 300-bed community hospital located in Goldsboro, North Carolina, just one hour from Raleigh and 1.5 hours from the NC beaches.

UNC Health Wayne is a 300-bed community hospital dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare to the residents of eastern North Carolina. This is an outstanding opportunity for a hands-on food service leader who enjoys leading from the front, developing high-performing teams, and creating an exceptional dining experience for patients, visitors, and hospital staff.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Food Operations Manager 2 will oversee the hospital's retail dining operations, including the cafeteria, micro-market, and a growing catering program while partnering closely with the Executive Chef and Patient Services Manager to ensure operational excellence throughout the department.

What You'll Do

As the Food Operations Manager 2, you will:

  • Lead the daily operations of the hospital cafeteria, micro-market, and retail dining services
  • Supervise and develop approximately 20 frontline, non-union employees
  • Coach, mentor, and hold team members accountable while fostering a positive and collaborative work environment
  • Partner with the Executive Chef and Patient Services Manager to ensure seamless daily operations
  • Support food quality, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence throughout the department
  • Assist with employee scheduling, labor management, payroll, and staffing
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP, food safety, sanitation, and Sodexo operational standards
  • Support and grow a catering program currently generating approximately $10,000 in monthly revenue
  • Monitor financial performance, labor efficiency, inventory, and operating costs
  • Lead by example by remaining visible on the floor and jumping in wherever needed to support the team

What You Bring

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong leadership experience within food service operations
  • Experience managing high-volume retail dining operations, cafeterias, or food service programs
  • A hands-on leadership style with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop employees
  • Strong operational, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience managing labor, scheduling, food safety, and customer service
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • A commitment to accountability, teamwork, and service excellence

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Healthcare food service experience preferred
  • Experience managing hospital cafeterias or retail dining operations

  • Micro-market or grab-and-go retail experience is a plus
  • Catering operations experience is helpful
  • Candidates from higher education, corporate dining, hospitality, or other high-volume food service environments are encouraged to apply if they are eager to transition into healthcare

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum Education Requirement - Associate's Degree or equivalent experienceMinimum Management Experience - 2 yearsMinimum Functional Experience - 2 years work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, etc.
