Food Expeditor (Expo) – Job Description

The Terrace & Essence | ROKI Collection Queenstown

A Food Expeditor is a key link between the kitchen and front-of-house teams, ensuring seamless communication and coordination so that every dish is delivered accurately, beautifully presented, and in a timely manner. This role is central to maintaining service flow, quality control, and the overall guest experience within a fast-paced, luxury dining environment.

Key Responsibilities


  • Oversee and coordinate all food orders at the kitchen pass during service.

  • Check dishes for accuracy, quality, temperature, and presentation before they leave the kitchen.

  • Ensure all orders are complete, correctly plated, and match the kitchen tickets.

  • Prioritise and organise dishes to ensure efficient and timely service delivery.

  • Communicate clearly and confidently between chefs and front-of-house staff regarding orders, table numbers, dietary requirements, and special requests.

  • Monitor ticket times and proactively assist in resolving any delays or service bottlenecks.

  • Ensure dishes are served in the correct sequence and reach the appropriate tables without delay.

  • Support smooth coordination between The Terrace and Essence during service periods.

  • Maintain cleanliness, organisation, and hygiene standards at the pass and service areas.

  • Assist with food running and service support during peak periods.

  • Uphold all food safety, allergen, and hygiene procedures at all times.

  • Contribute to a calm, professional, and efficient service environment, even under pressure.

Skills & Requirements


  • Previous experience in hospitality, restaurant service, or a similar fast-paced food service environment.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly and confidently liaise between kitchen and front-of-house teams.

  • Excellent multitasking and organisational abilities.

  • High attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality and consistency.

  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and efficient under pressure.

  • Strong teamwork mindset with a proactive and supportive attitude.

  • Good understanding of food safety standards and kitchen operations.

  • Availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and peak service periods.
