Education and Work Experience

  1. High school Diploma or GED
  2. Two to three years of direct customer service.
  3. Must be 21 years of age or older

Scope of Position

The Food Distribution Coordinator will keep the Food Pantry clean and in order. The Food Distribution Coordinator distributes food boxes, accepts donations, and regularly leaves the property to pick up donations. All duties are outlined but not limited to the duties described.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Knowledge required: Use a computer in the working environment; use standard office machines (e.g., fax, copier, multi-line telephone, keyboard); use standard office practices and procedures; read, write, and speak the English language to express ideas and communicate effectively.

Ability required: Interact with individuals using generally accepted business behaviors and standards. Use interpersonal skills to deal effectively with others in favorable and unfavorable situations. Organize, prioritize, and plan own work. Multitask, i.e., change work focus or respond to change of conditions and interruptions in workflow. Learn new systems and procedures. Problem solve, i.e., the ability to identify problems and find effective solutions with limited assistance. Operate forklift. Operate motor vehicles, including vehicles up to 25-foot length box truck. Operate motor vehicle in all types of weather conditions.

Licenses and Certifications:

Idaho Driver’s license.

Extensive knowledge of Boise area preferred

Forklift certified or receive certification to operate forklift within 30 days of employment.

Idaho Food Handler’s Certificate or receive certification within 14 days of employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all food collection and distribution through the food pantry.
  • Responsible for food pantry facility, vehicle, and equipment; including maintenance, cleanliness and upkeep.
  • Work closely with the Idaho Food Bank to pick up orders and maintain regular pick up time.
  • Keep the food pantry clean and in order and in a fashion to pass USDA and Idaho Food Bank inspections
  • Maintain statistics in an orderly up-to-date and confidential method.
  • Maintain Gift in Kind donation sheets and turn in monthly
  • Supervise, coordinate and direct volunteers during distribution, set up and break down
  • Coordinate the food supply, set up and break down of the outdoor Farmer’s Market program. This includes working with local farms, produce suppliers and other food suppliers to ensure food availability for this program
  • Provide assistance to the Family Services Director, and others as directed.
  • Drive to assigned locations to pick up donations on regular daily, weekly, and monthly pickups.
  • Check food temperatures on donated food items.
  • Maintain refrigerators and get replacements/repairs when needed.
  • Keep freezer clean and in order and rotate food stock.
  • Ensure food shelves are stocked each day and ready to serve clients.
  • Supervise and monitor clients who are using the food pantry.
  • Sort all food that comes into the food pantry, checking dates for spoilage, and rotate stock and or inventory.
  • Manage all waste to reuse, recycle, or throw away.
  • Return pallets and milk crates to vendors.
  • Accept donations and provide receipts as needed.
  • Ensure safety in the food pantry of employees, clients and volunteers
  • Safely operate the forklift to move needed food or other donations for Family Services.
  • Maintain good community relations between The Salvation Army and food donor organizations.
  • Assist with Christmas Food Box Distribution including preparing food boxes, supervising volunteers, contacting food drive representatives, picking up food drive food, picking up toys as needed.
  • Assist with all other holiday and special events. Special events may require an alternative schedule such as evenings and weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or corps officer.
