Food & Beverage Supervisor
The Westin Nova Scotian – Halifax, NS

As a Food & Beverage Supervisor, you play a key role in leading daily restaurant and room service operations while ensuring exceptional guest experiences. Working closely with the Assistant Restaurant Managers, and Food & Beverage Manager, you help create a positive and productive environment for both guests and team members. Through leadership, coaching, and operational excellence, you contribute to the success of the department while maintaining the highest standards of service, quality, and hospitality. As a Food & Beverage Supervisor, you will:

Be Your Manager’s Right Hand – Support the Food & Beverage Manager by helping implement standards, policies, and daily procedures. Ensure the team is trained, confident, and aligned with the department’s vision and service goals.

Keep Your Eyes Open – Lead with attention to detail. Ensure the restaurant is clean, well-prepared, and fully staffed. Confirm that team members know the menu, daily specials, guest preferences, and any group bookings. Professional appearance and readiness are a must.

Be the Communicator – Act as the bridge between front-of-house, kitchen, and management. Share key information in real-time so everyone—from servers to chefs—is in sync and guest service flows seamlessly.

Walk the Talk – Jump in where needed. Whether it’s serving a table, greeting guests, updating schedules, training a new team member, or assisting in interviews—you lead by example.

Be a Safety & Security Advocate – Keep an eye out for anything unusual or unsafe. Protect guests, coworkers, and hotel property by ensuring all standards for safety, cleanliness, and security are upheld at all times.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in food & beverage operations, with supervisory experience required

  • Serve Right and Food Safety/Food Handler certifications required, or willingness to obtain upon hire

  • Fluent in English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong leadership qualities with a hands-on, guest-first approach to service

  • Proven ability to train, coach, and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong organizational and time management skills; able to prioritize and adapt quickly to changing service needs

  • Able to stand and walk for long periods without sitting or leaning

  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and 20 lbs frequently, including bending, reaching, twisting, and moving continuously throughout a shift

  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays

  • A genuine passion for hospitality and delivering exceptional guest experiences

Additional Job Duties

  • Supervise daily food & beverage operations across restaurant, lounge, and room service outlets
  • Train, coach, and support team members to ensure service standards are met
  • Address guest concerns and resolve service issues promptly and professionally
  • Monitor food quality, beverage quality, cleanliness, and overall guest satisfaction
  • Ensure compliance with liquor laws, food safety regulations, sanitation standards, and hotel policies
  • Complete required reports, administrative tasks, and departmental communications
  • Assist with service duties and other operational needs as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
