POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

The Food Bank Worker provides support to the food bank program provided by Cambridge Community and Family Services.

Accountabilities:

Food Bank Aid with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of food for the Food Bank program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.

  • Maintain food bank stock, cleanliness, tidiness, and organization of food bank area, if needed assist with food drives.
  • Ensure that all clients are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Receive phone calls for food bank intake.
  • Ensure that program fliers and resource materials are stocked and available for distribution.
  • Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner.

Health and Safety Adherence to all health and safety standards. Assist with ensuring that the Food Bank is maintained in regard to organization, appearance, maintenance and general cleanliness and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.

  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required, in collaboration with Senior Community Services Worker.

  • Community, clients

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY

  • This position reports directly to the Corps Officer or designate

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • May handle grocery store cards
  • Required to ensure that Ministry Unit policies and procedures are followed for the safe/secure handling of all monetary donations received.
  • Assist with food bank materials management such as donations/product flow and distribution of same.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a temporary part-time position based on 30 hours per week.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • Ability to lift/move more than 25 lbs. and this job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently; working in a standing position for long periods of time.
  • Working environment is typically in the office in generally agreeable conditions.
  • Your supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.
  • Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification when dealing with clients.

Normal hours of work – Monday -Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a ½ hour unpaid break each day.

*Note: Required to be available for full 9 weeks of the program

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
    • Is between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment,
    • Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
    • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
    • *International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.

Canada Summer Jobs Program requirements apply. Individuals who required employer-specific work authorization (e.g., international students on study permits) are not eligible under this program. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must meet program eligibility requirements, including age and legal status criteria.

  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $19.85 with a maximum of $23.82.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
