Job Description

Winpak Heat Seal is seeking a Food and Safety Coordinator to join their Quality team based out of Pekin, Illinois.

This role is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the site’s food safety program and for supporting quality processes that help ensure employees, processes, and products remain compliant with company, customer, and regulatory requirements. The Coordinator will play a key role in internal audits, non-conformity management, change control, training, customer concerns, and continuous improvement. This is an opportunity for a quality or food safety professional to make a meaningful impact while working collaboratively across operations and the Quality team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day maintenance and implementation of the site’s Safe Quality Food program and serve as the primary food safety resource for the facility.
  • Conduct and document internal audits, identify internal non-conformities, coordinate corrective and preventive actions, and ensure issues are addressed and closed in a timely manner.
  • Manage quality system change controls and support the development, review, and maintenance of Quality Management System procedures and documentation.
  • Support food safety and quality compliance activities, including environmental programs such as pest control, sanitation, water, air quality, temperature, and humidity monitoring.
  • Investigate food safety incidents, customer complaints, and audit findings and work with cross-functional teams to identify root causes and implement corrective improvements.
  • Develop and deliver annual food safety and Good Manufacturing Practices training, while supporting quality-related onboarding and ongoing employee training.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, customers, and internal teams to support regulatory requests, supplier qualification, customer requirements, and ongoing quality performance.
  • Support microbiological testing and other food safety monitoring activities in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of food safety, Good Manufacturing Practices, and quality standards and support continuous improvement across the facility.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in quality assurance, food safety, or a related quality function, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with food safety programs, internal auditing, compliance, non-conformity management, corrective actions, and/or quality system processes.
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points training and internal auditor training.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees and cross-functional teams and influence compliance without direct authority.
  • Experience developing or delivering employee training and supporting a culture of quality and food safety.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, a science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or related field; equivalent education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Experience in food manufacturing, food packaging, or a closely regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with the Safe Quality Food program and familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices, Food and Drug Administration requirements, and International Organization for Standardization 9001 quality standards.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, medical, food, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments will be considered.
  • Experience leading audits, projects, training initiatives, or other cross-functional quality activities.
  • Packaging industry experience is an asset but is not required.

Additional Details:

  • This is a full-time, day shift position.
  • This position is 100% onsite at Winpak Heat Seal in Pekin, Illinois.
  • This role has no direct reports and reports to the Quality Control Manager.
  • The position is designed as a mid-level quality opportunity with a broad operational focus and significant cross-functional interaction.

Compensation range: $65,000–$75,000 per year

The compensation range provided is a general guideline only. Pay will be determined based on the candidate's experience and expertise and is subject to vary.
