This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join the team as the Service and Wine Director at the #1 Hotel in Los Angeles, as voted by Travel and Leisure: Oceana in Santa Monica, CA. This oceanfront, all-suite hotel reopened in July 2019 after undergoing a $35 million transformation, and we are now seeking motivated, enthusiastic professionals to become integral members of our team.

As the Service and Wine Director for the Hotel Oceana Santa Monica’s Sandpiper restaurant, you directly supervise all food and beverage staff and ensure unparalleled food service for both the restaurant and room service. The How…

You will use your three years of food and beverage experience (with at least one year in a supervisory role) in a fine dining operation to direct and coordinate the restaurant’s day-to-day operations. Your attention to detail will support the management team in maximizing the restaurant’s profitability through adequate staff, vendor, and inventory management.

Your passion for the food service industry and deep understanding of all aspects of restaurant operations will be an asset as you will frequently work with the on-site leadership team to achieve revenue goals, hire, train and develop new staff, address guest concerns quickly and effectively, and ensure the hotel is meeting its regulatory obligations regarding food service, training, and employment.

Your friendly, efficient, and high-touch approach is perfect for engaging guests and team members. You appropriately address guest concerns and escalate complaints as needed. Still, you can maintain and enforce company standards regarding operational processes and procedures related to the hotel’s food and beverage outlets.

The Details…

You will work a full-time hospitality schedule, defined by operational needs, which includes weekends and holidays.

Willing to conform to hotel dress and grooming standards, which include meeting the hotel’s dress code, no visible tattoos while wearing a uniform, no unnatural hair colors, no piercings other than one pair of earrings, and neatly groomed facial hair.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Abilities

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of one year of supervisory experience in front-of-house fine dining operations and at least four years of food and beverage experience in a luxury food-service environment is required
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a supervisory role
  • Prior catering experience preferred
  • Proficiency in POS systems and basic restaurant software
  • Food handling and Beverage Service certifications (ServSafe and RBS) required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Physical Requirements

  • Expected work hours: Full-time on a schedule defined by operational needs
  • Travel: None
  • Work environment and physical demands:
    • Able to frequently lift or move items weighing up to 10 pounds; occasionally needs to lift or move items weighing up to 20 pounds
    • Able to use hands to use and manipulate tools and objects or control equipment; adequate vision to do the same safely
    • Able to move about the property to perform assigned tasks and responsibilities, including standing for extended periods, walking, climbing stairs, stooping, kneeling, or crouching to perform functions
