Amity Health is seeking 2 passionate and community-minded Food Action Community Connectors to support communities across the Great Southern and Southern Wheatbelt to improve access to healthy, affordable and locally available food.

Working as part of an innovative community development project, you will support local leadership, build community capacity and strengthen partnerships that contribute to practical, community-led solutions to food insecurity. About the Food Action Project

The Food Action Group Project is a three-year pilot initiative funded by Healthway through the WA State Government and delivered by Amity Health in partnership with Edith Cowan University's Food Action Group Project. The project aims to improve access to healthy, affordable and locally available food across the Great Southern and Southern Wheatbelt.

Working alongside community leaders, Aboriginal and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, government, food retail and food relief partners, the project supports community-led action to strengthen food access, improve local food systems, encourage nutrition, cooking and gardening initiatives, and build sustainable local skills and capacity.

About the Roles

This is a hands-on community development role supporting the delivery of regional food security initiatives and community-led action across participating communities.

Working closely with the Food Action Development Officer and key stakeholders, you will help coordinate projects, facilitate community engagement activities, support Food Action Groups and contribute to initiatives that strengthen local food systems and improve community outcomes.

As the Food Action Community Connector, you will:

• Support the Food Action Development Officer to coordinate, implement and monitor regional food security projects, initiatives and action plans.
• Assist with stakeholder, service and policy mapping activities that inform planning, project development and priority setting.
• Support project reporting, evaluation activities and the monitoring of project outcomes and impact measures.
• Assist with the coordination of working groups, meetings, workshops and community engagement activities across pilot regions.
• Support the development and maintenance of positive relationships with community members, partner organisations and key stakeholders.
• Facilitate communication between stakeholders to encourage collaboration and participation in food security initiatives.
• Support the delivery of advocacy, training and capacity-building activities that strengthen local food systems and community networks.
• Represent the project at community meetings and events, promoting awareness of food security initiatives and partnership opportunities.
• Support the establishment and ongoing functioning of Food Action Working Groups, including governance and decision-making processes.

These roles are available on a part-time basis, 2 day/s per week and is based in the Southern Wheatbelt and Central Great Southern Regular travel across participating communities will be required.

You are passionate about community development and enjoy working alongside communities to support practical, locally driven solutions to complex challenges.

You thrive on building relationships, fostering collaboration and supporting community-led action. You are organised, adaptable and confident engaging with a broad range of stakeholders, including community members, service providers, government representatives and partner organisations.

You bring:

• Knowledge, skills or experience in community development, including supporting community-led approaches to address local challenges.
• An understanding of how community-led initiatives contribute to positive outcomes for vulnerable people.
• An interest in systems-focused approaches that address food insecurity, poverty and barriers to equitable access to healthy, affordable and locally available food.
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• The ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders and communities.
• Well-developed digital literacy skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and data management systems.
• The ability to analyse, interpret and communicate information effectively.
• The ability to work independently, show initiative and contribute positively within a team environment.

Essential Requirements

• Tertiary qualification in Social Sciences, Community Development, Community Services, and/or a minimum of three years' experience in community development or a related role.
• Current National Police Clearance.
• Current Working with Children Check.
• Current WA Driver's Licence.

Desirable

• Knowledge of continuous quality improvement principles and activities.
• Experience working in a community-based setting.
• Experience engaging and working with a range of people, agencies and community groups.
