Foal Attendants – Night Shift (Foaling Season 2026)

Westbury Stud is seeking reliable and dedicated Foal Attendants to join our team for the upcoming foaling season.

We have opportunities available for people with a range of experience levels, from those looking to gain hands-on foaling experience through to highly experienced foaling attendants.

Experience Levels Available

Trainee Foal Attendant
Little to no foaling experience required. Full training provided.

Foal Attendant
Some previous foaling, stud, veterinary or horse handling experience preferred.

Senior Foal Attendant
Extensive foaling experience with the ability to work independently, identify problems early, and confidently assist with foaling emergencies.

Remuneration will be based on experience and skill level.

Shift Details

Shifts Available

• 4:00 PM – Midnight
• Midnight – 8:00 AM

Season Duration

• Early August to late November

Shift Frequency
Flexible. Whether you are looking for one shift per week or a full-time roster, we'd like to hear from you. Please include your availability in your application.

Please Note

This role is primarily carried out outdoors and involves walking paddocks throughout the night in all weather conditions. Applicants should be comfortable working outside in cold, wet and muddy conditions when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor mares close to foaling across multiple paddocks and stabling areas.
• Identify mares showing signs of imminent foaling.
• Assist with foalings and emergencies.
• Provide post-foaling care to mares and foals.
• Administer medications and treatments as directed.
• Maintain clean, safe and well-presented stabling areas.
• Feed and water horses as required.
• Move mares and foals between paddocks and stables.
• Record observations and communicate effectively with the wider team.

What We're Looking For

• A genuine interest in horses and animal care.
• Ability to work independently and remain alert throughout the shift.
• Calm and confident approach in emergency situations.
• Good observation and communication skills.
• Previous stud, veterinary or foaling experience is advantageous but not essential.

This is a hands-on role and an excellent opportunity to learn from an experienced team while being directly involved in one of the most rewarding parts of the breeding season.
