The FGSE Design Engineer will design, build, test, and support fluid systems used at Firefly’s launch sites, test stands, and production facilities. This role works closely with engineers and technicians to develop safe, reliable systems supporting launch vehicles and spacecraft.

Responsibilities

  • Design ground fluid systems for cryogenic liquids, gases, pneumatics, and other fluid applications
  • Develop P&IDs, drawings, calculations, and work instructions
  • Select valves, fittings, piping, tubing, and system components
  • Support fabrication, installation, testing, and startup of fluid systems
  • Work directly with technicians and build teams
  • Troubleshoot and improve existing systems
  • Develop test procedures and support system activation
  • Participate in design and operational readiness reviews
  • Maintain compliance with applicable engineering codes and safety standards
  • Travel to launch and test sites as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of professional experience with fluid systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, HVAC, or similar systems
  • Experience designing and building GSE or related fluid systems
  • Strong understanding of fluids, thermodynamics, and heat transfer
  • Experience with cryogenic systems
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with controls, instrumentation, SCADA, DCS, or data acquisition
  • 3D CAD experience; Siemens NX preferred
  • Experience developing test and operating procedures
  • Familiarity with ASME, NASA, or related fluid system standards
  • Hands-on experience building, operating, and troubleshooting complex fluid systems
