Florida A&M University seeks a dynamic and experienced academic leader to serve as the Dean of the School of Business and Industry (SBI). The right candidate will play a central role in positioning the School of Business and Industry for national rankings and guiding the SBI through preparation for new AACSB accreditation, while strengthening existing academic quality, fiscal sustainability, and external partnerships.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Florida A&M University seeks a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as the next Dean of the School of Business and Industry. For the right candidate, this opportunity includes directly shaping the academic direction, strengthening external partnerships, expanding enrollment, and elevating the School of Business and Industry’s national profile through strategic leadership and targeted investment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The next Dean will be charged with advancing a bold and focused agenda that includes the following priorities:
National Rankings & Visibility
• Lead a comprehensive strategy to position the School of Business and Industry for national recognition in U.S. News & World Report, Niche, and other prominent ranking systems.
• Strengthen data quality, student outcomes, reputation metrics, and external visibility.
• Elevate the School’s national profile through thought leadership, conferences, and strategic communications.
AACSB Accreditation Readiness
• Provide executive leadership for preparation toward new AACSB accreditation.
• Align faculty qualifications, assurance of learning, curriculum, governance, and strategic planning with AACSB standards.
• Establish sustainable systems for continuous improvement and accreditation compliance.
Academic Excellence & Student Success
• Ensure high-quality, innovative, and relevant business curricula.
• Expand experiential learning, internships, corporate engagement, and career placement outcomes.
• Strengthen advising, retention, progression, and graduation rates across all programs.
Faculty Excellence & Development
• Recruit, retain, and support high-performing faculty aligned with teaching excellence, applied scholarship, and professional engagement.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, mentorship, and continuous improvement.
• Support faculty research, professional practice, and industry engagement.
Industry Partnerships & Workforce Alignment
• Expand partnerships with corporations, financial institutions, startups, government agencies, and non-profit organizations.
• Strengthen executive education, certificates, and workforce-responsive programming.
• Advance entrepreneurship, innovation, and applied business solutions that benefit the regional and state economy.
Fiscal Stewardship & Resource Development
• Provide strong fiscal leadership, including budget management, revenue growth, and strategic allocation of resources.
• Increase external funding through philanthropy, grants, corporate sponsorships, and alumni engagement.
• Partner with Advancement and University leadership to support long-term financial sustainability.
QUALIFICATIONS
• An earned doctorate or terminal degree in business or a closely related discipline
• Senior academic leadership experience (Dean, Associate Dean, Chair, or equivalent)
• Demonstrated success in:
- Business school accreditation processes (AACSB preferred)
- Strategic planning and outcomes-based assessment
- Faculty leadership and development
- Budget management and resource generation
- Industry partnerships and external engagement
• A commitment to student success, academic excellence, and mission-driven leadership within a public HBCU context

The city is a recognized regional center for scientific research, and home to the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory. In 2015, Tallahassee was awarded the All-America City Award by the National Civic League for the second time.
Close to the Gulf of Mexico, there is a plethora of things to do in Tallahassee.
