Responsibilities:

As a Floral Designer at Gelson’s, you will play a key role in supporting the daily operations of our floral department. You will be responsible for processing floral loads, merchandising, floral designing and maintaining the floral department. You will care for and maintain all floral products and displays.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Provide excellent customer service by assisting shoppers with product inquiries, locating items, and resolving any customer concerns.
• Process plants and flowers prepared to merchandise on the sales floor.
• Price flowers, plants, and arrangements as directed.
• Assist in display arrangements and arrange and wrap items upon customer request.
• Place and receive product orders, ensuring accuracy and proper storage of incoming merchandise.
• Monitor product quality, freshness, and presentation on shelves, removing any damaged items.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations. Follow safety and sanitation guidelines to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
• Embrace new challenges and be a flexible team player, taking on responsibilities as needed.
• Operate cash registers and handle customer transactions accurately.
• Other duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certificate in floral design preferred and completion of a successful floral design test
• Previous experience in a grocery retail setting with one year floral design experience
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills
• Ability to lift and move heavy items and stand for extended periods
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• Knowledge of the care, maintenance and handling of various flowers and foliage, indoor plants, and other items.
• Proficient in all facets of fresh and silk/dried designing including all occasion production design.
• Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Physical requirements:

• Continuous hand manipulation including, grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation
• Reaching above and at shoulder level
• Standing, walking, bending up to 8 hours per day
• Walking on uneven surfaces
• Twisting, walking, squatting, and kneeling up to 4 hours per day
• Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
• Driving moving equipment (Forklift / Power jack)
• Working near hazardous equipment (Baler, trash compactor, floral knives)
• Exposure to dust, gas, fumes (Receiving dock)
• Exposure to extremes in temperature (Floral Cooler)

Union pay range: $18.48 - $22.45
