Primary responsibility is to sell construction materials and services to existing and prospective customers including contractors and consumers. Accomplish this by building strong relationships and guiding the customer through their project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Answer customer’s questions on how to accomplish their goals.
- Learn company products, procedures, culture, and philosophy.
- Provide outstanding customer service by listening, educating, quoting and selling products for the customer’s needs.
- Assist customers in selecting flooring products, coordinating special orders, and providing product recommendations based on their project needs.
- Evaluate competitive situations and determine appropriate action to gain additional business.
- Understand profit margins and how to maintain them while increasing sales.
- Attend training sessions to learn and keep current on products we sell.
- Effectively handle customer complaints and warranty issues.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Help customers load items from the yard.
- Order nonstock items such as windows or doors for customers.
- Order stock items for specific sections of the store.
- Put merchandise away as needed.
- Count inventory located in the store.
- Unload trucks weekly or as they come in.
- Talk with contractors about future projects they have coming up.
Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications:
- Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
- Desire to learn and grow professionally.
- Physical strength to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Strong knowledge of construction industry.
- Computer knowledge.
- Ability to form strong relationships with customers.
- Ability to react quickly to problems and respond to them accurately and professionally.
- Ability to operate a computer and calculator.
- High School diploma preferred.
- Friendly outgoing personality that enjoys working with people.
- Positive and energetic attitude.
- Strong verbal skills.
- Knowledge of flooring products or the construction industry preferred.
