Job Description

Position Summary

The Floor Technician is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and sanitary floors throughout Dublin Post Acute. This position performs routine and specialized floor care, including sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, scrubbing. The Floor Technician will help ensure that the facility maintains a clean, professional, and safe environment for residents, visitors, and employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain floors throughout resident rooms, hallways, dining areas, common areas, offices, and other designated areas.
  • Sweep, dust mop, vacuum, mop, scrub, strip, wax, buff, and polish floors as needed.
  • Operate floor-care equipment such as floor buffers, automatic scrubbers, vacuums, carpet extractors, and other cleaning equipment.
  • Maintain carpets through vacuuming, spot cleaning, and deep-cleaning procedures as assigned.
  • Follow established procedures for the proper use and storage of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Read and follow chemical labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and facility safety procedures.
  • Place appropriate wet-floor or caution signs when cleaning or treating floors.
  • Keep floors free of spills, debris, stains, and other hazards.
  • Report damaged flooring, equipment, or safety hazards to the supervisor promptly.
  • Clean and maintain floor-care equipment after use and report equipment malfunctions.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and notify the supervisor when supplies need to be replenished.
  • Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times.
  • Follow facility policies and procedures related to resident safety, privacy, and infection control.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
  • Assist with general housekeeping duties when needed, including cleaning common areas and other assigned spaces.
  • Maintain a professional and respectful environment when working around residents, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Respond promptly to spills and other floor-related safety concerns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Environmental Services Director or supervisor.

Resident and Safety Responsibilities

  • Maintain awareness of residents who may be present in work areas.
  • Keep cleaning equipment, chemicals, and supplies secured and away from residents.
  • Maintain clear walkways and promptly address potential fall hazards.
  • Follow all infection control, OSHA, fire safety, and facility safety requirements.
  • Protect resident belongings and maintain resident privacy and dignity.
  • Immediately report accidents, injuries, spills, or unsafe conditions to the appropriate supervisor.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in floor care, housekeeping, environmental services, or a similar position preferred.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate floor-care equipment.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to interact professionally with residents, families, visitors, and coworkers.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in a skilled nursing, healthcare, hospital, assisted living, or long-term care setting.
  • Experience with commercial floor-care equipment and cleaning chemicals.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull, and reach as needed.
  • Ability to lift and carry cleaning supplies and equipment as required.
  • Ability to operate floor machines and other cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to work around cleaning chemicals while following appropriate safety precautions.
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.

Work Environment

The Floor Technician works throughout the facility, including resident rooms, hallways, common areas, dining areas, offices, and other designated spaces. The position may involve exposure to cleaning chemicals, wet floors, dust, odors, and other conditions commonly associated with healthcare environmental services.

Infection Control

The Floor Technician is expected to follow all Dublin Post Acute infection prevention and control policies and procedures. Proper cleaning and disinfection techniques must be followed to help maintain a safe and sanitary environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
