Compensation: £24,408 - £28,278 / year

We are seeking an operational leader to manage front-of-house operations and drive a high-performing service environment on a fixed term full-time basis. Working closely with the Chef Manager, you will lead a team of service assistants, optimise floor efficiency, and ensure seamless coordination between the kitchen and dining areas. You will champion excellent customer service while maintaining rigorous health, safety, and food hygiene standards across all service points.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage staff rotas, handle sickness absence, assign floor sections, and train new team members
  • Conduct regular appraisals, assess staff performance, and resolve on-floor conflicts
  • Lead pre-service briefings, allocate daily duties, and provide hands-on support during peak hours
  • Maintain a welcoming environment, resolve escalated customer complaints promptly, and lead by example with professional service
  • Execute food safety procedures, maintain accurate SFBB records, and enforce strict COSHH, allergen control, and health and safety regulations
  • Monitor food portioning, presentation, and delivery speed against facility standards
  • Report equipment issues to the Chef Manager and support special hospitality bookings and college events

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate, Level 2 and 3
  • Willingness to support evening duties (e.g., open evenings, enrolment), work flexibly, and move between multiple sites at short notice
  • Working within a commercial or educational catering environment
  • Previous experience of managing a large catering team
  • Collaborative teamwork and strict adherence to kitchen health and safety procedures
  • Have strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Exceptional communication skills to facilitate daily alignment with the Chef Manager, lead staff briefings, and manage customer relations
