Broughton Hospital is currently accepting applications for a Floor Maintenance Assistant to work on 1st shift. The primary purpose of this position is to perform cleaning and maintenance of various types of floor surfaces and other specialized projects throughout Broughton Hospital. The Floor Maintenance Assistant will work under close supervision and will be guided by a daily schedule for general assignments and special project work. Work performance is reviewed by quality checks and frequent consultation with supervisory personnel. This position immediately reports any safety or sanitation hazards to the supervisor.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
• Gathering materials, supplies, and equipment to prepare the necessary cleaning solution according to the specified job task;
• Prepping corners, edges, doorways, and stationary furniture and sweeping floors;
• Stripping floors using proper procedures and the correct solution for the floor type;
• Buffing floors using proper procedures, correct solution, and equipment;
• Vacuuming/Shampooing carpets, rugs, and door mats, while using proper procedures, correct cleaning solution, and equipment;
• Maintaining/Applying floor finish by using proper procedures and equipment;
• Moving furniture weighing up to 200 lbs. using hand trucks, desk movers, and carts to allow access to floor area;
• Maintaining equipment and assuring that ALL equipment is cleaned according to proper procedures;
• Making minor repairs to equipment and/or submitting work orders to the supervisor;
• Assisting with cleaning windows, inside and out, at least yearly, but more often as conditions require;
• Completing special projects as assigned by the Environmental Services Supervisor; and
• Assisting in other support service areas as needed.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Recruitment Range: $31,200.00 - $48,810.00
Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.
The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
1 year of floor maintenance experience in a commercial or institutional setting
Management prefers candidates with the following:
Experience stripping and/or waxing floors
Experience performing maintenance on and/or repairing floor maintenance equipment
Experience operating a buffing machine and/or floor scrubber
Conditional Requirements: Selected applicants must be able to pass a State Bureau of Investigation Criminal History Check, and complete and pass BLS/CPR training and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training during orientation.
This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.
The normal work schedule for this position isMonday through Friday from 6:00am - 2:30pm

Broughton Hospital is one of the three regional psychiatric hospitals with statutory responsibility for operating as part of the Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities (DSOHF). With the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, we provide help and support to North Carolinians, and their families, experiencing mental illness. Our hospital serves the western thirty-seven (37) counties of North Carolina, as part of the state's system of care and treatment for persons with mental illness.
