https://humanresources.baltimorecity.gov/hr-divisions/benefitsFloor Care Technicians are generally responsible for the overall floor maintenance of hard surfaces, carpeted areas, and upholstered furniture within the Baltimore Convention Center. Work involves no supervisory responsibilities.
Employees receive moderate supervision from the Operations Crew Leaders and Operations Supervisors. Employees in this class work on a rotating shift basis. Work is performed primarily in building interiors where there are no hazardous conditions.
Work requires moderate physical exertion. The work of this individual involves evening, weekend, holiday, shift-work, and occasional mandatory overtime.
Essential Functions
- Performs preventative maintenance check on all equipment prior to use.
- Secure the work area and posts proper safety notices for other users of the space prior to beginning work.
- Installs and replaces carpet and tile throughout the building as necessary.
- Cleans and maintains hard surfaces, carpeted areas, and upholstered furniture.
- Mops (dry and damp), buffs, and burnishes hard surface floors.
- Vacuums, shampoos, bonnets, and extracts carpets, stairwells, and upholstery.
- Maintains inventory of supplies and orders replacements as necessary. Maintains cleaning schedules and maintenance records.
- Ensure proper cleaning and maintenance on specialty floor equipment.
- Monitors Floor Care Technician floors for cleanliness and damage.
- Secures all equipment and supplies in proper storage areas.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED Certificate.*Commensurate experience will be considered in lieu of high school diploma*
AND
Experience: One year of experience in floor care with primary responsibilities in carpet maintenance and hard surface cleaning
OR
Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to work independently with moderate supervision.
Ability to read and understand operating manuals for floor/carpet cleaning equipment.
Ability to operate floor/carpet cleaning equipment upon training (if necessary).
Ability to remove or install carpet tile, PVC tile, and other floor treatments properly.
Ability to perform basic maintenance on tools and equipment according to manuals and supervisor’s direction.
Ability to complete and maintain records.
Ability to inspect floors to determine any problems.
Operational experience with any or all of the following primary carpet cleaning equipment:
Chariot Ivac Ride on Vacuum
Tennant R14 Ride on Carpet Extractors
Tennant 6100 Ride on Sweeper
Tennant EC2 Carpet Extractor
Counter Rotating Brush Machine

Background Check

Probation
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a 6 MONTH mandatory probation.
