TheFloodPreventionTechnologistisaccountableforassessingfloodriskofresidential,multi-family,institutional,commercialandindustrial(ICI)propertiesincludingtheadministrationofbackwatervalvesubsidiesandstormwaterrebates.

Whatyou’dberesponsiblefor
AstheFloodPreventionTechnologistyouwillbereportingtotheManager,ProgramAdministrationKeyaccountabilitiesfortheroleinclude,butarenotlimitedto:
- Independentlycompleteatechnicalevaluation/assessment/inspectionoffloodriskofresidential,multi-family,institutional,commercialandindustrialpropertiestodeterminethefloodmitigationcomponentsandbestpracticesacustomercanincorporatetoreducethefloodriskoftheirproperty
- Inspectionelementsinclude:
- Inspectionscheduling:Inspectionsarebookedthroughuseofanonlinebookingsystem(residential)orbycommunicationwithpropertyownersviaphonecalloremail(multi-family,ICI).Technologistsarescheduledbasedoninspectiontypeandrouteplanning.
- Pre-inspectionplanningReviewofpropertyinformationthroughvariousdatabasesandinformationcollectedfromthecustomer
- ExteriorAssessmentoverlanddrainageofproperty;landscaping;driveways,walkways,andpatios;gradingatfoundation;eavestroughsanddownspouts;foundation;windows;doors;exteriorwatersources,lowimpactdevelopment(LID)featuresincludingrainbarrels,permeablepavers,raingardens,etc.
- InteriorAssessmentSewerandstormlaterals,floordrain;backwatervalve;foundationdrain(weepingtile);sumppitandpump;exposedfoundationwalls,floorsandcoldrooms;finishedwallsandfloors;windows;plumbingfixtures;additionalriskofwaterdamage;moldandmildewgrowth;hazardousmaterialsstorage,etc.
- Post-inspectionreporting: Generateacomprehensivereportfollowingeachcompletedinspectionandprovideeducationalmaterial,technicaladviceandsupporttocustomers
- SupporttheexecutionofsubsidiesandrebatesofferedtocustomersbyEPCOR.Technologistseducatepropertyownersandassesspropertiesforeligibilityandapprovalofsubsidiesandrebates,includingbothadesktopreviewofprovideddocumentationfromthepropertyowneraswellasafieldassessment(onpremiseinspection).
- Due to the seasonal nature of Flood Prevention inspections, the Flood Prevention Technologist will support the Cross Connection Control (CCC) Program during the shoulder and winter seasonsSupport for the CCC Program will include:
- Surveying and inspectinginternal watersystems atcommercial/industrial facilities to ensure backflowprevention devices are in placetoprotect the public water supply from potential contamination as per Code, Bylaws and Standards, documents and reports findings, and recommendations to the manager.
- Administeringfacility and customer records within the CCC database, including generating inspectionpackagesand entering survey and inspection data to support program delivery and regulatory compliance.
- Assistingand supporting EPCOR staff, customers, property managers, and other stakeholders regarding CCC compliance and related issuesasrequired.
- Follow process to capture, manage and report on customer interactions in theappropriate database.
- CollaboratewithfellowTechnologists,ManagersandAdministrativestaffonprogramelementsincluding:
- Providingprocessreviewandsuggestingimprovementstoensurecontinuous improvement of the programs.
- Workinpartnershipwithotheremployeesasrequiredonprojectsinvolvingmultiplestakeholders.
- Accountabletothepublicandourcustomersincluding:
- Meetingcustomerexpectations,andprovidingtimelyandresponsiveservice
- Appropriatemanagementofescalatedcustomersandfollowupwithallinvolvedpartiestoensurethecustomerissatisfiedwiththeresponse.
- Participateincustomerand/orpublicengagementactivities,suchasprojectinformationsessionsandcommunityevents outside of regular work hours,asrequired.

Qualifications,experienceandbehavioursyouwillpossessare:
Education:
- Completionof2-yeartechnicalDiplomafromarecognizedpost-secondaryeducationalinstitute(preferencegoestoanyofthefollowing:surveyandgeospatial;landscapearchitect;environmental/civil;advancedplumbing;disasterandemergencymanagement)
Experiencethatincludes:
- 4+yearsinoneormoreofthefollowing:
- Floodmitigationandpreventionservicesasitpertainstofloodriskreductioninaresidentialand/orurbanenvironment.
- Lotgrading/surveyingincludingmaintenanceofdetailedfieldnotesandrecordkeeping.
- Customerserviceexperienceincluding:completionofresidentialappointments,providingpubliceducationontechnicalissues,andresolvingescalations.
- UtilityexperiencewithafocusonstormwatermanagementincludingLIDdesign,construction,operationormaintenance.
- Siteorfacilitymanagementandbuildingconstructionserviceswithafocusonresidential,institutional,commercialandindustrialfacilities.
- Sewerservicingofresidentialorcommercialplumbingrelatedtobothwastewaterandstormwatercollectionsystems.
- Emergencymanagement,includingmitigation,preparedness,responseandrecovery.
- Knowledgeofsurveying/lotgradingprocessesincludingcomprehensionofdetailedsitedrawingsrelatedtooverlanddrainage
- WorkingknowledgeofCityofEdmontonDrainageBylaw18093
- KnowledgeofLIDtypes,plantspeciesselection,designandbenefitsincludingdroughtmanagementandwatershedprotection
- ProficientwithDRAINS,GeoFIT,Oracle,IVARA,GISsystems,MicrosoftTeams,andMicrosoftOfficeSuite

- ValidClass5AlbertaMotorVehicleOperatorsLicense
- AbilitytoqualifyforandmaintainanEPCORdriver'spermit.

- Limitedto6demeritsorless.
Note that candidates that do not meet the 4 years of experience may be considered for a Developmental Level appointment with at least 2 years related experience

- FinalWageandStepwillbedeterminedatthetimeofselectionandbasedonacombinationoffactorsasoutlinedintheCollectiveAgreement.

- A requirement of working for EPCOR is that you are at least 18 years of age, successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education) and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)
- If you are considered for the position, clearance on all applicable background checks (which may include criminal, identity, educational, and/or credit) and professional reference checks is required. Some EPCOR positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law. These positions require advanced criminal record checks that must also be conducted from time to time after commencement of employment.
- A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.
- To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.
- Prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file.
