Join our team as a Floating Lab Technician! This is a 1st-shift position, but you must be flexible and willing to work any shift as needed.

Pay offered: $23.55-$25.05 per hour

Key Responsibilities

  • Obtain samples from raw material deliveries, mold, and core sand systems and perform green sand (compression, combability, permeability and moisture, methylene blue, AFS clay, and strength) and core sand (loss on ignition, screen size) tests as required.
  • Record sand testing results using statistical process control (SPC) techniques.
  • Notify supervisor, mold, or core departments of test results, as required.
  • Clean and calibrate equipment as required to ensure accurate test results.
  • Monitor sand system operation, including equipment operation, sand additive addition requirements, and raw material inventories.
  • Adjust additives and equipment operation, as necessary, to achieve desired recipe.
  • Troubleshoot sand system operation and make adjustments, perform calibration, or contact maintenance as required.
  • Coordinate sand system downtime with molding department.
  • Work with vendors and trucking firms to manage adequate raw material levels for sand system.
  • Grind and polish metal samples and analyze for nodularity and microstructure.
  • Prepare samples and perform carbon/sulfur analysis and spectrometer testing.
  • Record testing results and forward to melt department, as appropriate.
  • Notify supervisor and melt supervisor or other designee of any samples that are of suspect quality.
  • Clean and calibrate equipment as required to ensure accurate test results.
  • Report any equipment problems to maintenance or arrange for service, as appropriate.
