Function / Position Summary
The Floater Administrator provides flexible, on-demand administrative leadership and support to school sites experiencing a short- or long-term administrative vacancy, most commonly an Assistant Principal vacancy, or to sites identified as high-need. Assignments are determined by the Assistant Superintendent of Schools, in consultation with Executive Directors based on site needs across the district, and may shift throughout the school year based on district staffing needs. In addition to direct site placements, the Floater Administrator may be assigned to shadow a veteran administrator at a site identified by the Assistant Superintendent of Schools or an Executive Director, in order to build leadership capacity and readiness for future administrative roles. The Floater Administrator attends the Office of Schools network meetings (e.g., AP meetings) associated with their current site placement and functions as a full member of the building administrative team for the duration of the assignment.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
- LEADERSHIP � CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION
- Supports the building principal and administrative team in implementing standards-based curriculum and instructional programs.
- Participates in classroom visits, rigor walks, and data review as part of the site's continuous improvement cycle.
- Attends relevant network AP/assigned meetings, AP Communities of Practice with the Culture and Climate Department, and professional learning aligned to the site placement (e.g., LEA trainings).
- ADMINISTRATION AND ORGANIZATION
- Conducts teacher and staff evaluations as directed by the principal or Executive Director.
- Assists with daily building operations, scheduling, and supervision duties as directed by the principal or Executive Director.
- Maintains open communication with the building principal, designated Network Executive Director, and Assistant Superintendent of Schools regarding site needs and progress.
- Provides on-site administrative coverage and continuity when a building administrator is unavailable.
- STUDENT SAFETY AND CULTURE
- Supports student behavior, discipline, and attendance systems consistent with district policy and the site's established practices.
- Assists with crisis response and site security procedures as a member of the building administrative team.
- Supports Tier I, II, and III intervention efforts as directed by the site's administration.
- STUDENT SERVICES
- As assigned, supports or participates in special education service team meetings, including IEPs, re-evaluations, and annual reviews.
- COMMUNITY RELATIONS
- Builds positive relationships with staff, students, and families at the assigned site for the duration of the placement.
- Represents the school and district professionally in all site-based communications.
- SHADOWING / LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT (as assigned)
- Shadows a veteran principal or assistant principal at a site identified by the Assistant Superintendent of Schools or an Executive Director to build leadership skill and readiness.
- Reflects on and applies observed leadership practices under the guidance of the supervising administrator.
- DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adapts quickly to the needs, culture, and procedures of different school sites (elementary, middle, or high school) as assigned.
- Maintains accurate records related to the assigned site's operations as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education
- Master's Degree in Education.
- Professional Educator License with General Administrative or Principal endorsement (required).
- Performance Evaluator Qualification (Teacher) required.
Experience / Knowledge
- Prior experience as a school administrator (e.g., Principal, Assistant Principal, or Resident Administrator) strongly preferred.
- Ability to build rapport quickly and adapt to varied school cultures, grade levels, and administrative teams.
- Working knowledge of school code, state and federal law, and District policies.
- Experience with student behavior systems, MTSS, and restorative practices.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, not required.
Physical Demands
- May be expected to work evenings and some weekends as required by the assigned site's event supervision calendar.
Terms of Employment
- This is an 11-month, 229-day position; individual site assignments and placements will vary in length throughout the year based on district need.
- Placement site and grade level (elementary, middle, or high school) may change during the year based on district staffing priorities.
- Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education, commensurate with a first-year Assistant Principal.

*When assigned to a building for an extended period, the Floater Administrator may also report to the Building Principal for day-to-day direction, as well as the evaluation process.
