Job Description

Company Description

Founded in the Queensland outback in 1920, Qantas has grown to be Australia’s largest regional, domestic, and international airline. Qantas has a range of subsidiary businesses that support the overall operations of the Group. The Qantas Group’s main business is the transportation of customers and freight using two complementary airline brands — Qantas and Jetstar — operating regional, domestic, and international services.

Job Description

The role is responsible for optimising and managing the Flight Training Assurance Framework for Aviation Safety Training (AST), including assurance tools, audit cycles, compliance monitoring programs, reporting mechanisms and continuous improvement processes that support safe, compliant and operationally effective training outcomes.

With complete support from the Flight Training Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs manager, the position proactively initiates, plans and conducts audits, assurance reviews and compliance monitoring activities across training delivery, instructor qualifications, training records, systems, facilities, equipment and operational readiness requirements. It identifies compliance risks, analyses findings, recommends corrective and preventive actions, tracks remediation through to completion and verifies the effectiveness of implemented controls.

Acting as a trusted compliance advisor to AST leaders, instructors and operational stakeholders, the role provides expert guidance on the interpretation and implementation of regulatory requirements, company policies, training standards and governance expectations. It supports regulatory readiness, CASA engagement, internal and external audit preparation and the closure of regulatory commitments.

The role administers compliance and quality management systems, including Intelex, ensuring accurate management of findings, corrective actions, compliance evidence, assurance records and reporting. Through effective analysis, stakeholder influence and practical continuous improvement initiatives, the position strengthens compliance behaviours, risk reduction and assurance maturity across Aviation Safety Training.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in aviation, safety, compliance, assurance, quality management or a similarly regulated operational environment, including demonstrated experience conducting audits, managing findings and influencing corrective action outcomes.
  • Relevant post-secondary qualification or equivalent professional experience in aviation, compliance, audit, quality assurance, safety, risk management, business or a related discipline. Lead Auditor qualification (or the capability to obtain one), safety management systems training, or recognised assurance/compliance training is highly desirable.

Key Desirable Skills:

Demonstrated knowledge of aviation operations, Flight Training environments, training governance or regulated operational practices.

  • Sound understanding of regulatory compliance, assurance, audit, quality management and safety management principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and maintain assurance tools, audit schedules, compliance registers, monitoring frameworks and governance reporting.
  • Experience conducting audits, assurance reviews, compliance monitoring activities or investigations, including analysis of findings and identification of systemic risks.
  • Ability to provide practical regulatory and compliance advice, interpret requirements and support operational teams in meeting company and regulatory obligations.
  • Proven capability to manage findings, corrective and preventive actions, evidence, due dates and effectiveness reviews through to closure.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis, trend identification, risk assessment and development of continuous improvement recommendations.
  • High level written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear audit reports, assurance summaries, compliance insights and governance papers for leadership audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to provide constructive challenge and drive compliance outcomes without direct authority.
  • Advanced organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise competing requirements, manage deadlines and deliver outcomes in a dynamic operational environment.
  • High attention to detail and strong personal integrity when managing compliance records, regulatory evidence and assurance documentation.
  • Confident use of Microsoft Office applications, reporting tools, databases and compliance or quality management systems; experience with Intelex or similar systems is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently with broad direction while collaborating effectively across teams, leaders and subject matter experts.
