What You’ll Be Doing

The Flight Safety Program Manager directly supports all Flight Safety Department programs and objectives as determined by the Director, Flight Safety or higher authority. This role is primarily responsible for leading and supporting safety investigations, while administering key safety programs that strengthen the Safety Management System (SMS).

In alignment with Wheels Up’s Safety Policy, this position supports the company’s commitment to making safety the highest priority, fostering a strong reporting culture, and continuously improving safety performance across all operations.

Responsibilities

Your Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Lead and support safety investigations involving operational events, incidents, and irregular operations, including root cause analysis, documentation, and development of corrective actions
  • Conduct on-site investigations as required, including interviews, data collection, and coordination with relevant departments
  • Analyze safety data and trends to identify hazards and support risk mitigation strategies within the SMS
  • Partner with cross-functional departments to implement and monitor corrective actions and safety improvements
  • Administer the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) as delegated, serving as the focal point for program coordination and compliance
  • Receive, process, de-identify, and track ASAP reports, ensuring timely communication with submitters and leadership when required
  • Investigate ASAP submissions and present findings to the Event Review Committee (ERC)
  • Coordinate and facilitate ERC meetings, including scheduling, agenda development, documentation, and follow-up tracking
  • Maintain accurate safety records and ensure all data is properly documented within designated systems (e.g., Quickbase)
  • Track and ensure completion of corrective actions and safety recommendations
  • Submit required ASAP reports to the Federal Aviation Administration and maintain program compliance
  • Publish safety trends, analysis, and insights to leadership and frontline employees
  • Support development and delivery of SMS and safety reporting training for new hires and recurrent programs
  • Provide guidance to employees on safety reporting processes and tools, reinforcing a just and open reporting culture
  • Support collaboration with Affiliate Safety and internal partners to promote alignment, communication, and shared safety awareness
  • Assist with safety initiatives, projects, and continuous improvement efforts as assigned

Qualifications

Key Competencies

  • Strong investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and adaptable to new systems
  • Strong computer aptitude; experience with safety systems preferred (Quickbase a plus)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
  • Comfortable facilitating meetings and public speaking
  • Flexible schedule and ability to travel as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Aviation, or related field required
  • Master’s degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience in aviation safety, investigations, SMS, or ASAP programs preferred
  • Working knowledge of FAA regulations and industry best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze safety data and implement mitigation strategies
  • Strong writing skills with ability to produce clear, concise reports
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and passport
  • Position is remote with travel required; must reside near a suitable airport

At Wheels Up, we believe in fair compensation based on experience, skills, and qualifications. The salary for this role ranges from $181,000 to $192,500/Yr., depending on a variety of factors. We don’t typically start individuals at the top of the salary range; your place within the range is based on what you bring to the table. Additionally, you may be eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program, which rewards individual and organizational performance.
