In collaboration with the Manager, the flight dispatcher is responsible for ensuring the safety, operational control, and efficiency of flights under their responsibility. The person in this role plays a critical part in supporting safe and efficient operations by analyzing flight conditions, anticipating operational challenges, and making real-time decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and operational control of flights within a Type A operational control system.
  • Plan flights safely and efficiently while balancing operational and economic considerations.
  • Monitor flights jointly with the Captain from departure until engine shutdown.
  • Analyze weather conditions and assess their operational impact.
  • Prepare, review, and amend flight plans as required.
  • Coordinate operational activities with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Execute emergency procedures and provide operational support during irregular situations.
  • Contribute to the overall performance of flight operations through proactive planning and decision-making.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; college or university education is considered an asset.
  • Successful completion of the FD-OPS and FD-MET examinations.
  • Restricted Radio Operator Certificate required.
  • Valid passport extending at least six months beyond the anticipated hire date and ability to obtain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC) within three months of employment.
  • Completion of the CFTC Flight Dispatcher course and previous experience as a flight dispatcher are considered strong assets.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), MNPS, RVSM, and ETOPS is considered an asset.
  • Excellent proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and demonstrated ability to use collaborative digital tools and AI solutions (e.g., Copilot). Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Oral and written fluency in French and English*

    A good knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec. The incumbent will be required to communicate and collaborate frequently in English, both orally and in writing, with colleagues, customers, and other stakeholders in Quebec, the rest of Canada, and internationally.
