Summary

The Flex Finance Advisor is a valuable member of our Finance team who provides short-term, as-needed financial guidance and institutional knowledge to leadership. The position serves as a trusted resource and sounding board, helping leadership navigate financial questions, decisions, and priorities while maintaining continuity with the organization’s established financial practices and procedures. The Flex Finance Advisor also assures the accuracy of financial reports, assists in identifying areas of risk, and manages special projects.

This is a temporary, flexible advisory position intended to provide access to institutional knowledge, financial expertise, and leadership perspective. The Flex Finance Advisor will work on an as-needed basis and is not intended to assume the operational responsibilities of the Chief Financial Officer.

Examples of duties

  • Assist with the processes and overall operations and directions of the financial operations.
  • Assure the financial operations follow generally accepted accounting principles and that internal control procedures are functioning, and proper medical billing and coding procedures are in place and followed to pass the various audits the agency requires for funding and certifications.
  • Respond to inquiries, gives appropriate information and referrals and documents as necessary.
  • Participate in the establishment of financial policies.
  • Provide expert analysis of a variety of financial and operational reports for the Health Department, such as overall revenue, accounts receivable aging, monthly financial reports, service utilization trends, and billing productivity, etc.
  • Perform periodic audits of billing information for compliance with funding agency requirements.
  • Serve as a financial sounding board and resource to executive leadership on financial questions, decisions, and emerging issues.
  • Provide perspective and guidance based on familiarity with the organization’s internal financial practices, procedures, systems, and history.
  • Advise leadership on financial best practices and approaches to financial management and decision-making.
  • Help identify financial considerations, risks, and opportunities associated with organizational decisions.
  • Provide historical context and institutional knowledge regarding budgets, financial processes, reporting, and organizational practices.
  • Collaborate with executive and finance leadership as requested to help maintain continuity and stability within the organization’s financial operations.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a senior financial leadership role.
  • Strong familiarity with the organization’s financial practices, procedures, systems, and operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial management principles and best practices.
  • Ability to provide objective, practical advice and perspective to executive leadership.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, communication, and relationship-building skills.
