Duties and Responsibilities:
· Under general supervision and direction of the VP for Facilities, maintains all agency vehicles and makes repairs as needed. Possesses specific skills in the following areas: Automotive Technology and Fleet Management
· Maintains agency-owned property and equipment including vehicles, tractors, lawn mowers, snow removal equipment etc.
· Directly supervises Lead Mechanic and garage operations
· Directly supervises Drivers
· Maintains V-Endorsement and all related Certificates
· Reviews all work orders to ensure proficiency and accuracy
· Performs administrative functions; including payroll approval, contracts, compliance and documentation, purchasing, etc.
· Supervises, as assigned, part-time and temporary maintenance staff, including youth in residence who may be assigned for work experience
· Displays exemplary role modeling on the job and when in contact with the children being served
· Keeps records of all agency vehicles INC and CSI, responsible for registering and licensing each vehicle, and ensuring that licenses are always up to date
· Tracks and monitors GPS units
· Keeps student transport vehicles up to date with maintenance, Department of Transportations (DOT) inspections and audits, as well as checks DOT endorsed drivers list weekly
· Dispatches transport vans to and from pickups/drop offs. Ensuring student transport vans are annually inspected and up to code
· Ensures all agency vehicles/student transport vehicles are registered with CT. Department of Motor Vehicle and registrations remain current/valid
· Ensures all agency vehicles/student transport vehicles meet standards outlined by CT. Department of Motor Vehicle in regards to emissions requirements
· Supplies all general Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as well as providing a clean and safe working environment
· Assists Maintenance department when needed. Helps provide snow removal for the agency as needed
· Assists in the preparation of budgets
· Analyzes data to increase business operational efficiency
· Interviews and hires for any fleet department positions
· Performs all other duties as assigned by the Sr. Director for Facilities
Education, Experience, and other Qualifications:
A High School diploma and at least two years of experience as an Automotive Technician, Management or other comparable position or trade are required. Must possess demonstrated skills in two of these areas: electricity, plumbing, carpentry, heating and air conditioning, welding, auto mechanics or small engine repair.
Must maintain a valid driver’s license and insurance, must be able to drive agency vans, automobiles, pick-up trucks and operate other agency equipment such as riding lawn mowers. Ability to work effectively and cooperatively as a team member with people from diverse educational, ethnic, economic and religious backgrounds is requisite.
