MINNKOTA POWER COOPERATIVE

FLEET SUPERVISOR

Minnkota Power is seeking qualified applicants for a Fleet Supervisor located at our headquarters in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

This position is responsible for supervision of the Fleet Services department, including supervision of vehicle mechanics, coordination and scheduling services, providing technical assistance, and overall coordination of the corporate fleet.

The salary range for this position begins at $95,226 per year. Appropriate pay will be determined based on a candidate's skills, education, and previous relevant experience.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Departmental Supervisory Responsibilities
    • Responsible for supporting their assigned areas’ short- and long-term initiatives
    • Provides support to the development of employees within their assigned area(s)
    • Assists with goals, monitors work, and helps evaluates results to ensure that departmental and organizational objectives and operating requirements are met and are in line with the needs and mission of the organization
    • Oversees assigned area(s) and employees for budgeting, expense accounting, and payroll processes
  • Oversee operations in the vehicle maintenance shop
    • Identify individual technical training needs and initiate appropriate action
    • Monitor work activity to ensure it is done in a safe manner and in compliance with current regulations
    • Approve expense reports and material purchases
    • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance performed
    • Maintain accurate documentation of test results
    • Maintain appropriate Department of Transportation (DOT) records
    • Consults with licensing personnel to provide specifications for permit applications
    • Review work practices and operating condition of tools and equipment
    • Ensure that the necessary parts are maintained in inventory
  • Coordinate and Schedule Service Activities
    • Direct priority and scope of work to be performed
    • Review manpower requirements and initiate appropriate action
    • Assign jobs to personnel
    • Coordinate appropriate work activities with department superintendents, individual drivers, etc.
    • Coordinate work activities with other outside repair facilities and parts suppliers
  • Provide Technical Assistance
    • Assist personnel with technical issues
    • Provide input to other departments from a vehicle maintenance perspective
    • Stay current with new technology and equipment
    • Root cause analysis of reoccurring problems
  • Coordination of the corporate fleet
    • Perform right-sizing studies for fleet
    • Determine appropriate lifecycles for fleet
    • Coordinate with outside departments on vehicle needs (MRY station, Bismarck airport, etc)
    • Coordination with Procurement to facilitate the purchase of new and replacement vehicles and equipment
    • Review appropriate financing methods for equipment (rental, purchase, lease)

Job Qualification Standards

Education and Training

  • Position requires at least a degree in vehicle mechanics, diesel technology, or related experience.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license, preferably a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or the ability to obtain

Experience

  • This position should have a minimum of 7 years of experience in the vehicle fleet maintenance business.
  • In addition, the employee should have some experience in leading work crews from a technical and supervisory standpoint and with EPA and DOT regulations.
  • Experience using a computer-based maintenance program, GPS program, and / or other related programs

Mental demands: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent will be required to problem solve, read, write and analyze data, work under schedules and deadline pressure, present information to others, work independently and use discretion and judgment for confidential or sensitive projects/issues.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed to an office environment indoors, and will travel outdoors to multiple locations dependent on work.
