The Fleet Shop Utility Porter is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and operational
readiness of county's fleet of vehicles and the maintenance facility itself. This role supports Fleet
Management by picking up and delivering vehicles and personnel, prepping vehicles for service,
performing basic vehicle maintenance checks, moving equipment on the lot and performing general
upkeep & cleaning of the shop and yard. May deliver documentation and coordinate with Motor Vehicle
on new vehicle and equipment licensing and registrations. Miscellaneous other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Wash, fuel, and clean the interior and exterior of vehicles. Respond to various Mesa County
facilities/locations to assist customers by jump starting vehicles, airing tires and taking in for repair,
opening locked door and performing other minor mobile repairs on vehicles and equipment. Picks up and
delivers county personnel, vehicles and equipment to and from local venders and locations.


Conduct basic vehicle inspections (fluids, tire pressure) and report defects or damage to management.
May perform small repairs to vehicles and equipment, such as light bulb and windshield wiper
replacement and other miscellaneous minor repairs. Assists with removing decals, decommissioning and
preparing equipment for sale.


Move, park, and organize fleet vehicles to ensure the lot is organized, safe, and easily accessible.
Perform daily cleaning duties, including sweeping/mopping bays, disposing of trash/scrap, cleaning oil
spills, and organizing tools. Pick up parts from vendors and assist with checking in and stocking parts in
the warehouse.


Receives and prepares items for shipping. Package and palletize items for shipment. Complete
necessary documents and schedule items for final shipment. Load and unload items via forklift or lift
gate. When necessary, assists the Parts Department with preparing fleet motor pool vehicles for use;
checking fuel and fluid levels, tire pressures and condition, safety equipment, and cleanliness.


Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:


High-school diploma or equivalent – Vehicle maintenance experience is preferred


Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities
required for the job.


Licenses and Certifications:


Valid Class “R” Regular Colorado Driver's License (minimum)


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:


This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 50 pounds.


Work is done typically indoors but may occasionally be exposed to outside atmospheric conditions for
moderate periods of time and must continue work even during inclement conditions.


The employee is frequently exposed to dirt, smoke, fumes, extreme heat and cold for long duration,
outside atmospheric conditions, traffic noise, and dust for sustained periods of time.


The employee is frequently exposed to possible bodily injury from moving mechanical parts of equipment,
tools, and machinery.


The employee is occasionally exposed to possible bodily injury from electrical shock, falling from high
places, and toxic or caustic chemicals.


While performing the essential functions of this job, shaking objects or surfaces; conditions such as
fumes, noxious odors, mists, gases, and poor ventilation that affect the respiratory system eyes, or the
skin.


Typical noise level of work environment is loud, primarily from engines, equipment, machinery, and power
tools.
