Job Description

SUMMARYOFRESPONSIBILITIESThisclassisresponsibleforsupervising,coordinating,andprioritizingthe light or heavy-dutyshop activitiesof the fleetmaintenanceoperationsfor over 600 vehicles and equipment valued in excess of $25 million dollars in support of the Public Works Commission.Responsibilitiesinclude,butarenotlimitedto,supervisingemployeesengagedintherepair/restorationmaintenanceof vehiclesequipment;reviewingworkinprogress; inspectingcompletedwork to include select quality control inspections;schedulingrepairsmaintenanceofallassigned vehiclesequipment;advisingmanagementaboutreplacementversusrepairofvehicles/equipment;maintainingupdating logsrecordsfilesandoperatingdrivingvehiclesinperformingworkassignmentsresponsibilities Ensures all applicable Federal, State, Environmental and Local Shop standards are enforced. OperatingundergeneralsupervisionoftheFleetManager,latitudeisallowedfor independentjudgementincarryingoutthedetailsoftheworkExtendedhoursandon-callavailabilitymayberequiredPerformsrelatedworkasrequired

FULLPERFORMANCEKNOWLEDGE,SKILLS,ANDABILITIES:Thoroughknowledgeofsafetyrulesregulationsprocedures;thoroughknowledgeofmethodspractices/techniquesinvolvedintherepairmaintenanceofavarietyofmotor vehiclesequipmentincludinggasoline/dieselengines;goodknowledgeofsupervisoryconceptsandpractices;good knowledgeofthereceipt/storage/issuanceofmaterialspartssupplies,andrecordkeepingrequirements;skillinperforming accuratemathematicalcomputations;skillinusingacomputerandapplicablesoftware;abilitytoestablishpreparemaintain accurately detailedrecordsandreports;abilitytoplantrainevaluatemotivateworkperformance;abilitytosupervisepeople and multipleprojects;abilitytocommunicateeffectivelybothorallyandinwriting;abilitytodevelopandmaintaineffective workingrelationshipswithcustomers,alllevelsofemployees,vendors,andcontractors

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (either)

  1. Graduationfromatwoyearaccrediteduniversitycollegeortechnicalschoolwithadegree/certificationin automotivemechanicaltechnology,orrelatedfieldandaminimumoftwo(2)yearsofprogressivelyresponsible experienceinthemaintenance/repairofgasoline/dieselvehiclesequipmentwhichincludessupervisoryorlead workerresponsibilities,inalargeautomotiverepairfacility;OR

  2. Graduationfromhighschoolorpossessionofahighschoolequivalencydiplomaandaminimumofsix(6)years ofprogressivelyresponsibleexperienceasdefinedin(A)above;OR

  3. Anequivalentcombinationofeducation,training,andexperienceasdefinedin (A)and (B) above.

SPECIALREQUIREMENTS:MustpossessandmaintainavalidNorthCarolinaDrivers license.

PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS:Mustbeabletoperformtheessentialfunctionsoftheposition

SAFETYHAZARDS:Exposuretonoise,dust,fumes,chemicals,gasesvariationsofventilation
