Fleet Performance Engineer – Gear Box Mechanical

The Fleet Performance Engineer – Mechanical is a high-impact technical role responsible for diagnosing and resolving complex, non-down turbine performance issues. As a technical subject matter expert, you will provide critical troubleshooting guidance, drive resolution of complex fleet cases, and perform deep-dive technical investigations. This role serves as a key contributor to fleet reliability, utilizing your expertise to turn customer insights into actionable technical solutions and preventive engineering improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Troubleshooting & Resolution: Manage a high-complexity caseload, providing rapid, accurate, and practical troubleshooting guidance to resolve customer concerns. Ensure all technical recommendations are sound, safe, and aligned with fleet reliability standards.
  • Architectural & System Analysis: Leverage deep knowledge of turbine subsystem behavior to evaluate performance issues. Conduct comprehensive technical reviews of cases to ensure solutions consider holistic system interactions.
  • Root Cause Analysis (T&Ts initiation & RCA): Perform and lead technical investigations into recurring fleet issues. Identify systemic failure patterns, conduct root cause analyses, and develop technical solutions that address underlying performance degradation.
  • Proactive Fleet Improvement: Analyze fleet data to identify trends in performance and reliability. Proactively develop technical strategies or design improvements to prevent recurring issues and enhance long-term turbine availability.
  • Cross-Functional Technical Collaboration: Act as a technical bridge between site operations, product engineering, and services teams. Provide expert technical counsel to internal stakeholders to resolve multi-disciplinary challenges.
  • Technical Excellence & Mentorship: Maintain a high standard of technical documentation and communication. Provide informal guidance and technical mentorship to peer engineers to elevate the overall quality and efficiency of the team’s troubleshooting efforts.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in Gear Boxes, mechanical engineering, turbine systems, fleet support, or services engineering.
  • Expert-level understanding of turbine subsystem behavior, performance monitoring, and advanced troubleshooting methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform detailed root cause analysis (RCA) and convert technical data into actionable engineering solutions.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex technical issues independently in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize data-driven insights into engineering recommendations.
  • Excellent technical communication skills; ability to explain complex mechanical phenomena to internal stakeholders and customers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Hands-on experience with gas turbine fleet operations or field service engineering.
  • Proficiency in reliability engineering methodologies and fleet performance analytics.
  • Experience in documenting technical standards, troubleshooting playbooks, or engineering best practices.
  • Continuous improvement mind-set and team work spirit
  • Capacity to climb wind turbines
  • Able to travel >15% time
