Fleet Mechanic's Assistant

About the Role
The City of Katy is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Fleet Mechanic's Assistant to support the Fleet Maintenance Division within Public Works. This role helps ensure the City's vehicles and equipment are properly maintained, documented, and ready to support daily operations.

What You'll Do

• Assist Fleet Superintendent and mechanics with daily shop operations and support tasks
• Enter and maintain accurate data in vehicle maintenance, asset management, and fuel systems
• Order, receive, organize, and maintain parts inventory and supply levels
• Transport vehicles, parts, and equipment as needed
• Keep the shop, parts room, and work areas clean and organized
• Support Public Works operations by responding to service needs as assigned
• Help ensure accurate records and efficient workflow across fleet operations

What You Bring

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Some mechanical or maintenance experience preferred
• Basic computer skills and attention to detail
• Ability to follow procedures and maintain accurate records
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
• Valid Texas Driver's License required

Additional Details

• Work is performed in an automotive shop environment
• Role involves physical activity, including lifting and working around machinery and equipment
• Designated as Essential Critical Infrastructure personnel
