Job Description

Great Lakes Petroleum is seeking an experienced Fleet Manager to oversee the maintenance, reliability, and regulatory compliance of our fuel transport fleet and support vehicles. This position plays a critical role in ensuring fleet assets are safe, operationally ready, and maintained in a cost-effective manner. The Fleet Manager will lead maintenance activities, supervise maintenance personnel, manage vendor relationships, oversee preventive maintenance programs, and partner with Operations, Transportation, and Safety teams to maximize fleet performance and minimize equipment downtime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities for fuel trucks, trailers, and support vehicles.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain preventive maintenance programs to improve fleet reliability and equipment uptime.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to fleet maintenance technicians and service personnel.
  • Schedule and prioritize repairs to support transportation operations and minimize vehicle downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, and company safety requirements.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection documentation, repair histories, and fleet records.
  • Manage relationships with outside repair facilities, vendors, parts suppliers, and equipment manufacturers.
  • Review maintenance-related purchases, including parts, tools, equipment, and services.
  • Monitor maintenance costs and identify opportunities for operational improvements and cost savings.
  • Assist with fleet replacement planning, equipment lifecycle management, and asset utilization.
  • Coordinate emergency repairs, roadside assistance, and equipment recovery when needed.
  • Support safety initiatives, incident investigations, and corrective action efforts.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in fleet maintenance, transportation equipment management, or diesel equipment management.
  • Two (2) or more years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of heavy-duty diesel truck and trailer maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations applicable to commercial vehicle fleets.
  • Experience managing maintenance vendors, repair facilities, and maintenance expenses.
  • Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Fleet Management, Transportation, Logistics, Business, Diesel Technology, or a related field.
  • ASE Medium/Heavy Truck certifications.
  • Commercial Driver License (CDL).
  • Experience supporting fuel transport, tanker, petroleum, or other regulated commercial vehicle fleets.
