What You'll Do
As the Fleet Maintenance Manager, you will lead all aspects of a high-volume maintenance operation supporting a fleet of approximately 110 heavy-duty diesel trucks You will be responsible for maximizing fleet uptime, ensuring equipment is safe, reliable, and compliant, developing a high-performing maintenance team, and driving operational excellence while delivering cost-effective maintenance solutions that keep our customers served every day.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop maintenance technicians and shop personnel
- Recruit, hire, schedule, and manage shop employees
- Conduct performance evaluations and administer corrective action when necessary
- Foster a culture focused on safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
Fleet Maintenance Operations
- Manage preventive maintenance and repair programs
- Maximize fleet availability and minimize equipment downtime
- Monitor repair quality, road calls, breakdown trends, and technician productivity
- Provide hands-on technical support and guidance when needed
- Ensure work is completed efficiently and safely
Compliance & Safety
- Maintain compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, and company standards
- Partner with Operations and Safety leadership to maintain regulatory compliance
- Ensure accurate maintenance documentation and recordkeeping
- Promote safe work practices throughout the maintenance operation
Financial & Asset Management
- Develop and manage maintenance budgets
- Control repair costs while maintaining high-quality standards
- Oversee parts inventory and vendor relationships
- Monitor warranty recovery opportunities
- Assist with fleet replacement planning and equipment purchasing decisions
Operational Excellence
- Analyze maintenance KPIs and fleet performance metrics
- Identify opportunities to improve uptime and reduce maintenance costs
- Perform root cause analysis on recurring equipment failures
- Implement best practices, process improvements, and preventive maintenance initiatives
- Ensure maintenance management software and inventory systems remain accurate
Qualifications
We're looking for an experienced maintenance leader who brings both technical expertise and exceptional leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fleet maintenance management experience
- Heavy-duty diesel truck maintenance experience
- Experience managing CNG-powered fleet equipment preferred
- Proven leadership experience supervising technicians and shop personnel
- Strong budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control skills
- Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations
- Experience with fleet maintenance management software
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced operation

Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; technical or college education preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in fleet maintenance management, preferably within the waste, transportation, heavy equipment, or commercial fleet industries.
- Proven leadership experience managing maintenance technicians, supervisors, and cross-functional teams.
- Extensive knowledge of heavy-duty diesel truck maintenance; CNG fleet experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of DOT, OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated experience managing maintenance budgets, cost controls, resource planning, and asset management.
- Strong project management, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting maintenance data, generating reports, and identifying operational improvements.
- High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and quality.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and computerized fleet maintenance management systems (such as Dossier or similar CMMS software).
- Proven record of professional achievement, leadership, and operational success.
Certifications & Licenses
- Valid driver's license required.
- CDL (Class A or B) preferred.
- Brake Certification required.
- Engine Rebuild Certification is a plus.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in a combination of office, maintenance shop, and outdoor environments.
- Ability to safely navigate and work around heavy equipment, machinery, and moving vehicles.
- Frequent use of computers, keyboards, tools, equipment controls, and vehicle operation.
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or move materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform occasional physical tasks within a maintenance environment.
- Regular exposure to shop conditions, including noise, dust, odors, grease, machinery, and varying weather conditions.
- Must be able to work safely while following all company safety policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- A High School diploma is required.
- Requires 15+ years of progressive hands-on experience in fleet management (Preferred background in Waste Services, Transportation, Maintenance, Parts administration)
- Solid project management, resource planning, oral and written communication skills.
- Specialized understanding of maintenance procedures and general knowledge of industry regulations (e.g. EPA, DOT, OSHA).
- Ability to manage complex and dynamic situations requiring a well developed sense of strategic and tactical priorities.
- High degree of autonomy, yet team oriented with ability to work cross-functionally within a matrix organization.
- Skilled in planning, implementing goals required in the cost effective management of allocated resources
- Basic understanding of accounting principals
- Attention to detail with demonstrated ability to produce accurate and consistent work quality.
- Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and maintenance software programs (e.g. Dossier, etc.).
- Strong analytical skills with expertise in researching, interpreting, data management, and report generation.
- Experience managing and/or working as member of indirect/cross-functional team.
- Must excel at managing and influencing the operational and administrative processes inherent in a high growth environment.
