Northern Concrete Construction is an industry leader in large concrete construction jobs meeting needs of general contractors.

The role of the Flatwork Laborer requires individuals to work on construction projects requiring the pouring of concrete.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements reflect the general details necessary to describe the major functions of this position and are not intended to be a detailed description of all the work/functions that may be required. Other duties may be assigned. Individual will work a varied schedule based on client needs.

• Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.

• Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones.

• Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.

• Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures.

• Build and position forms for pouring concrete, and dismantle forms after use, using saws, hammers, nails, or bolts.

• Tend to water pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and equipment.

• Shovel, pour, and spread concrete.

• Grind or scrape concrete using abrasive tools or machines.

• Apply caulking compounds by hand or using caulking guns on ties and cuts in walls.

• Anchor or brace wooden structures, frameworks, or forms.

• Apply cleaning solvents.

• Climb ladders and scaffolding.

• Dig holes or trenches for foundations, posts, poles, or related items.

• Install insulating materials.

• Load, unload, or stack containers, materials, or products.

• Mix mortar, grout, slurry, concrete, or related masonry material.

• Move materials or goods between work areas by hand.

• Prepare building surfaces for sealants, foam or adhesives.

• Prepare site or surfaces for concrete work.

• Inspect forms for problems or defects.

• Responsible for maintaining jobsite safety and 100% DOT compliance.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Knowledge of using tape measure and level.

• Knowledge of industry and equipment.

• Basic small engine knowledge.

CERTIFICATIONS: Obtain and maintain within one (1) month of hire the following:

• Valid drivers’ license

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL & COGNITIVE SKILLS:

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

• Ability to read understand shop drawings and blueprints.

REASONING ABILITY:

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to stand between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.

• Ability to walk between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.

• Ability to sit between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.

• Ability to use hands greater than 2/3 of the time.

• Ability to reach with hands and arms greater than 2/3 of the time.

• Ability to climb or balance between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.

• Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.

• Ability to talk and hear greater than 2/3 of the time.

• Ability to lift/carry 50 pounds or more at the waist, chest, and overhead 1/3 of the time.

• Ability to push or pull up to 150 pounds less than 1/3 of the time.

• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds less than 1/3 of the time.

• Ability to use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus more than 2/3 of the time.

• Noise level in the work environment is loud.
