About the Role:

Metal Fitters assemble fabricated metal parts into products, set up machining tools, production machines and textile machines, and operate machining tools and machines to shape metal stock and castings. Fits and assembles metal parts and subassemblies to fabricate production machines
and other equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fitting fabricated metal parts into products and assembling metal parts and subassemblies to produce machines and equipment
  • Checking fabricated and assembled metal parts for accuracy, clearance and fit using precision measuring instruments
  • Setting guides, stops and other controls on machining tools, setting up prescribed cutting and shaping tools and dies in machines and presses, and setting controls for textile machines
  • Forming metal stock and castings to fine tolerances using machining tools to press, cut, grind, plane, bore and drill metal
  • Cutting, threading, bending and installing hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines
  • Preparing pattern mechanisms to control the operation of textile machines used to spin, weave, knit, sew and tuft fabric
  • Diagnosing faults and performing operational maintenance of machines, and overhauling and repairing mechanical parts and fluid power equipment
  • May erect machines and equipment on-site
  • Butt welding HDPE pipes (fusion machine)
  • Electrofusion fittings installation
  • Cutting, aligning, prepping pipes
  • Pressure testing welded lines
  • Building long poly pipe runs
  • Install pipelines across site
  • Pump maintenance
  • Install and relocate pumps
  • General mechanical repairs onsite

Key Competencies:

Essential

  • Trade Qualification – Certificate III in Engineering (Fitting & Machining) or 2 years equivalent on the job training
  • Technical Proficiency – Demonstrated experience in fitting, machining, and assembling metal components in a workshop or field environment.
  • Mechanical Aptitude – Strong ability to diagnose mechanical faults and perform repairs and maintenance on pumps, rotating equipment, fluid‑power systems and associated machinery.
  • Ability to Interpret Drawings – Competent in reading and working from technical drawings, schematics, parts lists and specifications.
  • Precision & Quality Focus – Skilled in using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, dial gauges) to ensure accuracy and tolerance compliance.
  • Welding Capability – Proficient in MIG/TIG/Arcwelding for fabrication and repair tasks (if required for the role).
  • Safety‑Driven Mindset – Proven commitment to safe work practices and hazard identification in a workshop and field environment.
  • Problem‑Solving Skills – Ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Communication & Teamwork – Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a small, fast‑paced team.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence – Required for travel between sites and workshops.
