POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Placing/fitting recommended durable medical soft goods by Physician on patients. Responsible for product knowledge and complex billing rules surrounding a variety of medical equipment and supplies. Responsible for maintaining inventory. Maintaining/cleaning department equipment. Identifies patient needs by asking clarifying questions to effectively promote our products and service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:
  • NA
  • Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:
  • Required to become Certified Fitter after 1000 hours DME experience.
  • Required to take the BOC certification, become COF certified and Licensed in the State of Minnesota within 8 months of employment.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • One or more years of sales or customer service experience in a DME or business environment with high service standards required.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and work independently after completion of COF.
  • Skilled in customer service, sales, communication, and telephone etiquette.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and ensure safety of patients.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:
  • Sales and customer service training a plus.
  • Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:
  • NA
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Basic PC knowledge including Windows and Microsoft Outlook preferred.
  • Experience with inventory management, electronic health care management software, merchandising and performing retail transactions preferred.
  • Knowledge of home medical supplies and equipment, product lines and insurance guidelines for reimbursement is desirable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Places and instructs on medical products based on physician recommendations, ensures that the patient is trained in the use and care of the product, completes all documentation needed for billing.
  2. Responsible for accurately maintaining patients’ files within a Durable Medical Equipment billing system. Generates appropriate billing for Business services daily.
  3. Responsible for gathering all documentation required for billing. Understands and applies insurance rules for DME when making decisions about billing. Contacts insurance for Prior Authorization. Maintains knowledge of Medicare billing and ABN requirements. Responsible for ensuring all signatures on documents sent to business services.
  4. Responsible to work Referral WQ 119662 for TKC’s, Walkers. Makes calls to patients to schedule appointments for pickup of product.
  5. Responsible to review daily OR schedule, contacts patient to inform them of Game Ready use while the recovery program, educates patient on how the product works, provides patient with options to rent after leaving recovery. Completes proper documents and ensures documents are sent to Business services for billing.
  6. Provides training of clinic staff for DME products.
  7. Maintains inventory according to department procedures.
  8. Answers incoming phone calls. Assists in problem solving to the satisfaction of the customer. Refers appropriate issues to manager. Responsible for maintaining DME schedule.
  9. Assists in patient care required to communicate with other providers and healthcare professionals in clinic settings.
  10. Performs other tasks as assigned.
