Job Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic, safety-conscious, and compassionate Wellness & Aquatics Fitness Instructor to join our vibrant senior living community. This dual-role position requires a dynamic professional capable of designing and leading fitness programs in both our gym and our community pool. The ideal candidate has a deep passion for older adult wellness, exceptional interpersonal skills, and the technical expertise to provide safe, low-impact, and functional workouts that enhance our residents' quality of life, mobility, and independence.

Key Responsibilities

Gym & Land-Based Instruction

  • Lead Group Classes: Design and conduct scheduled group land fitness classes tailored to senior populations, including chair yoga, silver sneakers, strength training, and balance/fall prevention courses.
  • Gym Equipment Guidance: Provide clear, friendly instruction and physical demonstrations on the safe use of gym-floor weight machines, cardio equipment, and resistance bands.
  • Personalized Training: Conduct one-on-one or small-group fitness consultations, assessing personal health conditions to build safe, individualized exercise modifications.

Aquatics & Pool Instruction

  • Lead Aquafit Classes: Instruct scheduled water aerobics and aquatic mobility classes, utilizing water resistance to build aerobic capacity, joint flexibility, and muscle tone.
  • Pool Deck Safety: Maintain vigilance over pool deck safety, ensuring proper entry/exit from the pool and immediately identifying residents showing signs of fatigue or distress.
  • Environmental Oversight: Routinely monitor pool environments for chemical slips, wet deck hazards, and proper storage of aquatic equipment (e.g., pool noodles, water weights).

Community & Administration

  • Resident Engagement: Actively "walk the floor" to build trusting, professional relationships with residents, fostering a highly encouraging and inclusive environment.
  • Health Screenings & Attendance: Administer basic pre-exercise health screenings, document resident progress, and maintain accurate daily attendance tracking logs.
  • Sanitization Standards: Ensure both gym equipment and the pool deck facilities remain clean, organized, and strictly adherent to community hygiene guidelines.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of active experience leading fitness instruction, with verifiable experience in both traditional gym environments and aquatic/pool settings.
  • Older Adult Specialist: Proven experience working with older adults or individuals managing chronic health conditions, physical limitations, or disabilities.
  • Core Certifications: Nationally recognized Group Fitness Instructor or Personal Trainer certification (e.g., ACE, NASM, ACSM, AFAA).
  • Aquatic Certification: Specialized Water Aerobics or Aquatic Fitness certification (e.g., AEA - Aquatic Exercise Association) is highly preferred.
  • Safety Credentials: Current and active CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are strictly required and paid for by company within 30 days of the start date.
  • Soft Skills: Strong, positive communication style, patient demeanor, and deep knowledge of senior exercise physiology.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to demonstrate movements on land and in water, safely lift or shift up to 50 lbs, and remain on your feet for extended training blocks.

Employment Benefits

  • Competitive hourly rate starting at $22+/hour.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement matching program.
  • Paid time off (PTO) and continuous education allowance for fitness certifications.
