The Fitness Coordinator is responsible for the leadership, coordination, administration, and daily operations of the YMCA fitness floor, fitness coaching programs, and member engagement experiences. This position provides direct supervision and support to Fitness Coaches while ensuring a welcoming, safe, and high-quality wellness environment that supports the health and wellness goals of YMCA members and the greater community.

The Fitness Coordinator oversees all aspects of fitness floor operations including coach scheduling, staff development, member engagement, facility standards, coaching systems, and fitness programming. This position is responsible for driving member participation and revenue generation through Paid Training services, wellness coaching opportunities, member fitness challenges, and related wellness initiatives.

This role supports the Community Wellness Director in the development, coordination, and execution of the Bernick’s Family Fitness Series while contributing to organizational goals related to member retention, community engagement, and healthy living initiatives.

In addition to operational leadership responsibilities, the Fitness Coordinator maintains an active presence on the fitness floor by coaching members, supporting staff, building relationships, and ensuring exceptional member experiences through direct engagement and service.

Requirements

  • Manages the day-to-day operations within the fitness center. Directs and leads fitness coaching sessions to educate our members on how to utilize the facility safely, while also finding the best fit for other offered programs that we can connect our members to.
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establish new program activities and expand program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Facilitates and schedules of staff meetings and training. Creates staff schedule monthly.
  • Provides leadership and leads all communication to staff.
  • Develop and operate the Bernick’s Family Fitness Series Events ensuring goals are met.
  • Creates and implements the process to increase the number of coaching sessions and the retention of members.
  • Manages and facilitates fitness coaching and member fitness challenges/programs.
  • Manages the cleanliness and pleasant environment of the fitness floor. Inspect equipment and fitness areas on a regular basis to ensure they are properly maintained. Report on any concerns to maintenance.
  • Ensures high quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, evaluations, and ongoing training of staff.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.
  • Reviews and evaluates staff performance, apply corrective and disciplinary actions as needed, including the termination of a staff member’s employment. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Models' relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions by establishing rapport with members. Responds to all members and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner. Resolve problems by listening and asking questions to understand member feedback and concerns.
  • Integrates the mission of the YMCA and follows the core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility into the healthy living aspect of job responsibilities.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Works with Marketing Director to communicate program promotions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Working towards a degree in a related field or bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certified within 60 days of hire.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Ability to work with youth and adults from beginner to advanced levels of fitness experience.
  • Physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Flexible working hours, including some weekend hours.
  • May include participation in various schedules to include early morning, evening and/or weekend commitments.
  • Ability to meet the work environment & physical demands of the position.
Salary Description
$40,000 - $47,000 annually
