Fitness Consultant | Glenfield Pool and Leisure Centre

Auckland Council’s Pool and Leisure Centres help more people get active and support our goal of making Auckland the most active city in the world. With our Leisure Centres more popular and busier than ever, our Fitness teams play a vital role in ensuring visitors remain motivated, engaged, and eager to return.

As a Fitness Consultant at Glenfield Pool and Leisure Centre, you’ll support people to achieve their health and wellbeing goals while creating a welcoming, safe, and inclusive fitness environment by:

• Delivering exceptional customer service and high-quality, tailored fitness programmes for all ages and abilities across our diverse community
• Leading engaging small group fitness classes, including high-intensity and circuit-style training sessions
• Keeping a visible and active presence on the gym floor, providing fitness advice and ongoing support to visitors
• Promoting safe exercise practices and reinforcing facility policies and guidelines to ensure a positive member experience
• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation, and monitoring equipment and facilities

This is a 20-hour permanent, part-time position. Due to the nature of our leisure centres operating 7 days a week, you will be required to work one weekend shift, as well as mornings and evenings. The working hours are outlined below:

• Tuesday (4:30pm-9:00pm)
• Wednesday (1:30pm-10:00pm)
• Saturday (6:30am-3:00pm)

Shifts are subject to change according to the roster and the needs of the centre, so flexibility is essential.

You’ll bring a genuine passion for fitness, health, and wellbeing, along with the energy and confidence to create a welcoming and motivating environment for everyone who uses our facilities. You enjoy delivering high-quality fitness programmes and leading engaging small group training sessions that help people achieve their goals. You’re enthusiastic, approachable, and confident working with people from all backgrounds, while maintaining high standards of safety, cleanliness, and customer experience.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A recognised fitness qualification, current Registered Exercise Professional (REPs) Certificate (or the ability to obtain one), and a current First Aid Certificate (training can be provided), with sound knowledge of fitness training, high-quality programme design, and safe exercise prescription
• Experience or a strong interest in leading small group fitness classes, with the ability to motivate and engage people of varying fitness levels through one-on-one and group interactions
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, and a positive, customer-focused approach
• Confidence promoting gym policies, demonstrating equipment use, and supporting safe exercise practices, and a strong eye for detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and well-presented facility
• The ability to work collaboratively as part of a proactive and dynamic team, use initiative, and manage administrative tasks effectively

Starting rate: Living Wage $29.35/h. Please note, our employer KiwiSaver contribution is additional to the base salary offered.
