Department Summary
Rec Sports provides programs and services to the university community. The goal is to provide a positive environment to assist those individuals in exploring and learning about recreation and fitness activities, in order to enhance a better quality of life and to become active members of the community. We employ approximately 250 students each year through various programs including intramural sports, informal recreation, group exercise, sport clubs, fitness, faculty/staff fitness, special events, outdoor pursuits and aquatics. This evening position is responsible for assisting in the overall coordination of the fitness program and supporting membership strategy, tracking, reporting, and outreach at both the UNT Denton and Frisco Landing Fitness Center locations. The role includes recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising all fitness employees; coordinating group fitness schedules; teaching group fitness classes and personal training clients; planning and executing fitness programs and events; ensuring safety and accident prevention; maintaining equipment; and overseeing staff administration.
This role also plays a key part in member recruitment, engagement, and retention strategies—including developing membership drives and campaigns, creating and leading outreach events, and tracking/reporting memberships. Evening availability is required, as a majority of responsibilities—such as staff supervision, program delivery, and member engagement—occur during late afternoon and evening hours.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field and two years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Hold one or more specialty group fitness certifications such as Zumba, Yoga or Kickboxing. Experience in a collegiate recreational sports program. Experience in supervising student staff. Bachelors or Masters degree in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Recreation or related field.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Must hold a group fitness or personal training certification in ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA, Cooper or other National Level certification. Must have a willingness to get an alternate fitness certification within 1 year of employment.
