Fit Specialist (Pattern Maker)

Canada Goose isn't like anything else. We've built something great, something special - an iconic brand with an inspirational and authentic story. At the heart of it is our promise to empower true exploration of all kinds. At Canada Goose, you're part of a movement that belongs to something bigger. One that seeks out the restorative power of nature and is driven by our purpose to embolden explorers and preserve the planet they roam. We endure any condition, observe every detail, and are building a community that believes in living bravely and coming together to support game-changing people.

Here, opportunities are everywhere - to try something new, to learn, to do meaningful and impactful work, and they're yours for the taking.

The Fit Specialist / Pattern Maker is a technical expert on the Global Fit team, responsible for developing patterns that deliver exceptional fit, quality, and comfort across luxury knitwear and stretch-based categories. This role specializes in creating and refining patterns, ensuring they align with creative direction and the brand’s high-performance, and luxury fit according to the Global Fit Strategy.

In close partnership with Design, Creative Directors, and Product Development, this role helps translate conceptual vision into well-balanced, technically sound garments—owning the fit and pattern process from concept to production.

About The Role:

Pattern Development & Fit Execution

  • Own the development of fit and size charts.
  • Engineer patterns to reflect fabric properties such as stretch, drape, recovery, compression, and rib behavior.
  • Collaborate with Creative Directors and Designers to interpret design sketches and translate them into wearable, production-ready fit.
  • Collaborate with Director of Global Fit in building fit blocks and block library.

Product Creation & Collaboration

  • Attend IRL (in-person) product concept sessions with Design and Product Development to co-develop early style direction.
  • Work alongside Product Development to create the first pattern or size charts as part of the corresponding tech pack created by PD.
  • Participate in early vendor or atelier hand-offs to ensure the pattern and spec package are aligned for accurate prototyping.

Fit Sessions & Iteration

  • Lead or attend fit sessions to evaluate fully fashioned, seamless, and jersey garments for silhouette, ease, stretch performance, and appearance on-body.
  • Execute pattern corrections and garment refinements based on fit observations. Remake and re-own patterns when substantial changes are required.
  • Ensure fit consistency and comfort across sizes and styles, aligned with brand fit blocks and grading standards.

Seamless & Knitwear-Specific Innovation

  • Work with vendors and product teams to align pattern structure with yarn behavior, gauge, stitch density, and machine capability—especially for seamless or engineered knit styles.
  • Understand and optimize construction techniques used in both traditional knitwear and seamless garments (e.g., body mapping, zoned compression, engineered rib transitions).
  • Contribute to innovation and problem solving around knit fit performance, durability, and shape retention.

Standards & Documentation

  • Adhere to Global Fit libraries (POMs, size charts, grade rules) and help ensure technical consistency across knitwear and jersey categories.
  • Collaborate with Product Development and vendors to communicate technical fit intent clearly and accurately.
  • Support seasonal fit reviews and share knit- and jersey-specific insights with the product creation team.

About You:

Experience & Education:

  • 5+ years of pattern making or technical design experience
  • Experience working with Creative Directors, high-end designers, or technical vendors in luxury or premium apparel brands.
  • Degree or certification in Fashion Design, Pattern Making, Knitwear Design, or a related technical field.
  • Familiarity with knitwear development systems (e.g., Shima Seiki, Stoll) and CAD pattern systems (e.g., Gerber); 3D software experience (e.g., CLO) is a plus.

Technical Expertise:

  • Deep understanding of knit stitch structures, shaping techniques, gauge behavior, shrinkage, and fabric performance in fully fashioned and seamless garments.
  • Proficiency in pattern development for jersey fabrics and managing technical challenges like fabric growth, distortion, and transparency.
  • Skilled in interpreting and applying yarn specifications, knit-down samples, and vendor capabilities to pattern design.

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to translate fit intent to non-technical partners and global vendors.
  • Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional partners including Design, PD, and Technical Teams.
  • Experience working with global supply chain partners in knitwear or jersey manufacturing is an asset.

Attributes:

  • Passionate about apparel & outerwear.
  • Highly detail-oriented with a precision-focused approach to garment balance, comfort, and silhouette.
  • Problem-solver who thrives in fast-paced, iterative development cycles.
  • Flexible, collaborative, and energized by innovation in textile and construction technologies.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to travel occasionally for vendor visits, fittings, or manufacturing support (<5%).
  • Must be available for real-time, in-person fit and development meetings as dictated by the seasonal calendar.
