We are seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented person with a passion for making a difference in the
Commonwealth of Kentucky!

The selected candidate will work as an integral part of the Information and Education Division working in the
division’s Information Center.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Respond directly to telephone calls, emails, and other communication from the public.
  • Research, interpret, and explain information regarding hunting, fishing, trapping, boating, wildlife and fisheries management, and related topics.
  • Issue disability authorization cards for the disability license. Duties would include sending denial and incorrect information letters to the customer requesting authorization card.
  • Issue various commercial hunting and/or fishing licenses.
  • Process online payments and subscriptions for the Kentucky Afield magazine and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Assist in the dissemination of agency informational materials to the public in response to requests.
  • Assist with the distribution of departmental information and Kentucky Afield magazine subscriptions and renewals.
  • Assist with mass electronic and traditional mailings, agency-wide data entry projects, and the management of the statewide Hunter and Boater Education programs when needed.
  • Assist with the management of the agency’s print publication inventory.
  • Routinely monitor the agency’s website.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills and Abilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Candidates should have a strong background in customer service and communication.
  • Candidates familiar with hunting, fishing, boating, wildlife and fisheries management and related topics will be given strong consideration.
  • Candidates should also have experience with Microsoft Office.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in graphic arts, communications, art, journalism, public relations, English, biological sciences or a related field.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:
NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
Experience in painting, sculpting, photography or other fine art illustration or depiction of wildlife or nature-related topics; computer-generated design and graphic illustration of wildlife-related publications or exhibits; feature or news style writing for publications that address the hunting and fishing sports, wildlife-associated recreation, or fisheries and wildlife management, or experience in customer relations and informational services will substitute on a year-for-year basis for required education.

Working Conditions

Generally located in a normal office setting with frequent trips to the field or other facilities for research, planning, interviews and photography for magazine articles, and on-site evaluation, photo documentation, sketching, design, construction, revision and maintenance work for exhibits and displays.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
