*This is earning potential over the course of nine step increases based on annual performance reviews. New hires typically start at Step 1.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This position provides professional service and technical work supporting the operation of one of eight fish culture facilities in the propagation and stocking of various sizes and species of fish to enhance recreational sport fisheries, as well as conserve and restore native fish. The position is responsible for supervision of on-station fish culturists and directing the implementation of all on-station work programs while ensuring all day-to-day operational necessities and actions happen in a timely and appropriate manner. The position provides professional and scientific work in assisting fisheries biological staff. The position is also responsible for overseeing fish culturist-led public educational and outreach events, ensuring program alignment with outreach goals established by the Division, and coordinating with the Department’s Information and Education Division. The position receives general direction from the Fish Culture Supervisor regarding priorities and operational needs supporting all aspects fish husbandry, fish stocking, and the maintenance, construction, operation, and security of facility infrastructure. The employee must be able to work in diverse physical work environments, often in adverse weather conditions. Some weekend and holiday work is required.
Preference will be given to candidates that successfully demonstrate:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Intermediate training, education, and/or experience in biology, fish culture, fisheries, or another closely related field with demonstrated competence working in a controlled environment and coordinating multifaceted maintenance operations.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: (Prior to attaining permanent status in this class): All employees must possess or be able to obtain a valid Maine Class B Driver’s License.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: The employee will be required to live on site to provide security for the facility and respond to any emergencies that may arise.

1. Describe your education and/or training in finfish aquaculture, fisheries, or biological sciences.
2. Describe your work experience in the aquaculture field pertaining to freshwater finfish propagation.

4. Describe your skill level using Microsoft Office client software to include examples of any completed projects
5. Describe how your outdoor interests and experience with fish and wildlife resources align with the mission of the Department.
