Job Description

Introduction to the role

As a First Line Support Engineer, you play an important role in keeping ASML’s manufacturing operations running smoothly. You will help resolve technical production issues, support continuous improvement, and contribute to the reliable delivery of technologies that enable the world’s most advanced microchips.

You will join the Motion Factory within ASML’s TWINSCAN Factory in Veldhoven, the Netherlands. This team produces performance-critical actuators, coil assemblies, and magnet components used in ASML systems. As a First Line Support Engineer, you will work close to production teams, helping to solve technical challenges while driving long-term improvements that support ASML’s mission of advancing semiconductor technology.

Roles and responsibilities

As a First Line Support Engineer, you spend much of your time on the production floor, working directly with products, equipment, and manufacturing processes. You investigate technical disturbances through hands-on analysis, inspections, testing, and collaboration with operators and engineers. Alongside resolving immediate issues, you identify opportunities to improve product quality, process stability, and operational efficiency.

  • Investigate technical production issues by working directly with products, tools, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform hands-on inspections and tests, such as leak testing, visual quality checks, and defect analysis.
  • Diagnose product and process deviations, determine root causes, and support corrective actions.

  • Lead and coordinate escalations for complex technical challenges requiring cross-functional support.
  • Coach colleagues in troubleshooting techniques and structured problem solving.
  • Identify recurring issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives to prevent future disturbances.

Education and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, electrical engineering, applied physics, aerospace engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a technical support production environment
  • Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues and performing root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement and quality management methodologies.

Skills

Working at the cutting edge of tech, you’ll always have new challenges and new problems to solve – and working together is the only way to do that. You won’t work in a silo. Instead, you’ll be part of a creative, dynamic work environment where you’ll collaborate with supportive colleagues. There is always space for creative and unique points of view. You’ll have the flexibility and trust to choose how best to tackle tasks and solve problems.

To thrive in this job, you’ll need the following skills:

  • Apply analytical thinking to diagnose issues and identify effective solutions.

  • Communicate clearly with different stakeholders in a production environment.
  • Take ownership of challenges and proactively drive improvements.
  • Balance hands-on technical work with a structured approach to problem solving.
  • Prioritize quality, safety, and continuous improvement in daily activities.
  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities and production needs.

About ASML

Who are we?

ASML is an innovation leader in the global semiconductor industry. We make machines that chipmakers use to mass produce microchips. Founded in 1984 in the Netherlands with just a handful of employees, we’ve now grown to over 40,000 employees, 143 nationalities and more than 60 locations around the world.

What do we do?

We provide chipmakers with hardware, software and services to mass produce patterns on silicon through lithography. Our lithography systems use ultraviolet light to create billions of tiny structures on silicon that together make up a microchip. We push our technology to new limits to enable our customers to create smaller, faster and more powerful chips.

Who are our people?
