$82,500 - $110,000

Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range.

Variable pay may provide additional opportunities for financial awards. This job is eligible to participate in IP’s short –term incentive plan.

The Job You Will Perform:

The Prattville Mill is currently seeking an Front Line Leader (FLL) for the Fibers Department. This position reports to the Fiberline Business Unit Manager (BUM) and is responsible for delivering target results in the areas of safety, environmental, reliability, cost, productivity and employee engagement.

The Prattville Mill produces linerboard and currently employs approximately 600+ people.

The Front Line Leader Role will:

  • Provide leadership in a goals-oriented environment to deliver target results in the areas of safety, environmental, quality, productivity, employee engagement, and reliability excellence.

  • Provide the first level of supervision to hourly employees working rotating shifts in the Fibers business unit.

  • Assist with managing the day-to-day operation of the Prattville Mill Fiber Department.

  • Manage the performance and development of hourly team members by setting clear expectations and standards of performance through effective one to ones.

  • Work closely with a variety of different leaders within the department and mill.

  • Be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the following process areas:

    • Pulp Mill – which includes the following equipment:

      • (3) Kamyr Continuous Digesters

      • (5) Brownstock Screening and Wash Lines

    • Woodyard – which includes the following equipment:

      • (2) round wood to chip – debarking and chip lines

      • (3) round wood cranes and wood storage locations

      • (4) chip stacker/reclaimers,

      • (2) chip screen lines and feed to the Digesters

Responsibilities:

  • Lead their respective Operations Team in the Fiber Area to an injury free work environment through leadership by example and modeling safe behaviors; as well as maintaining all aspects of Safety Above All Else in the Department.

  • Lead the safety processes for the area including safety work systems, safety observations, and operator safety training. Including reporting all safety incidents and lead incident analyses.

  • Provide visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety, quality, Operational and Reliability results
  • Personal attention to and direct involvement in maintaining a clean and orderly work environment, including Improvements in the housekeeping standards through the 5S process.
  • Utilize tools and systems to maintain compliance with all applicable environmental permitting and ensure all environmental compliance systems are reliable and accurate
  • Personnel and performance management of the hourly workforce including completing tasks such as one to one’s and attendance management; employee engagement improvement; employee training and assisting with personnel scheduling.
  • Support engagement processes to ensure the crews have ownership.
  • Lead efforts and responsibility to meet and improve the daily goals associated with quality specifications, inventory management and production standards.
  • Ensure communication and coordination across the different areas and business units.

The Skills You Will Bring:

  • A degree in Chemical, Paper, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred but not required. Non-degreed candidates must meet International Paper’s First Line Leader requirements.
  • Manufacturing Experience required
  • A demonstrated record of safety commitment and results.
  • Instill safety as a core value within the team and effectively communicate a shared vision for safety
  • This position requires a strong sense of ownership and urgency, clearly visible leadership skills, and extensive operational knowledge and understanding.
  • Candidates must also be able to use strong interpersonal skills to engage hourly personnel and build trust, respect, and teamwork with both hourly and salaried personnel.
  • Quickly develop thorough knowledge of mill equipment and systems.
  • Utilize the International Paper Change Process to drive change
  • Utilize strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks effectively
