Firmware Technical Program Manager, Commercial Personal Systems

Description -

Location Requirement

Candidates must perform the job in Taiwan and be authorized to work in Taiwan.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Firmware Technical Program Manager to provide dual technical leadership and strategic program governance for the design, integration, and mass-market delivery of commercial computer platform firmware.

In this pivotal role, you will bridge the gap between high-level platform architecture and operational execution. You will leverage deep hands-on expertise in PC systems (x86 and ARM) alongside proven leadership in cross-functional engineering management. Working closely with core architecture teams, global R&D, validation, security, and external ODM partners, you will define next-generation firmware architectures while ensuring scalable execution, technical risk mitigation, and timely NPI product rollouts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Platform Firmware Architecture & Technical Leadership: Define and drive end-to-end platform firmware architecture, requirements, interface definitions, and validation strategies across x86 and Windows on ARM (Qualcomm) commercial PC ecosystems.Lead technical design, debugging, and integration across subsystems including BIOS/UEFI, EFI drivers/apps, Embedded Controllers (EC), and RTOS-based components.Drive system-level enablement of emerging PC features, USB Power Delivery (PD), high-speed buses (PCIe, USB), and hardware-software interactions.Oversee platform security design, including secure boot, cryptographic authentication/signing, firmware update frameworks, and vulnerability management.
  • Cross-Functional Program Governance & Execution: Provide end-to-end technical governance for concurrent platform programs, steering platforms from early architectural concept and POC through to NPI and mass production.Align technical roadmaps and dependencies across internal architecture, silicon vendors, hardware, validation, software, security, and global ODM design partners.Facilitate daily engineering issue reviews and triage; formulate actionable technical mitigation plans for platform blockers and design regressions.
  • Quality, Process Improvement & Operational Excellence: Establish and refine issue escalation workflows to accelerate critical defect turnaround times and minimize cycle times across firmware releases.Direct firmware continuous integration (CI), automated validation, and regression suites to ensure platform stability.Leverage data-driven post-mortem reviews to enhance firmware development standards, system specifications, and cross-site collaboration.Synthesize complex technical risks and architecture roadmaps into executive-level communications to drive strategic resource alignment.

Education & Experience Recommended

  • Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive engineering experience in embedded firmware, platform architecture, systems engineering, or technical program leadership within the PC/computing ecosystem.
  • Demonstrated track record of leading both technical design decisions and multi-team program execution (including ODM governance) for commercial-grade notebook/desktop platforms.

Knowledge & Skills

  • System & Platform Expertise: In-depth knowledge of modern PC and notebook architecture (x86 and ARM-based platforms), boot sequences, system power states, memory controllers, and chipset/SoC interfaces.
  • Firmware Development Mastery: Strong background in BIOS/UEFI, low-level C programming, EFI protocols/drivers, EC firmware, and RTOS-based platform management.
  • Protocol & Interface Proficiency: Hands-on understanding of industry-standard bus protocols (PCIe, USB, Type-C/PD, I2C, SPI, SMBus).
  • Delivery & Governance: Proven capability managing multiple concurrent platform programs using Agile/Scrum or hybrid engineering methodologies.
  • Vendor & Stakeholder Management: Extensive experience partnering with ODMs, silicon partners, and distributed global engineering teams to resolve complex technical hurdles and hit critical milestones.
  • Analytical Problem Solving: Exceptional debugging instincts paired with structured escalation and root-cause analysis frameworks to rapidly close high-priority firmware defects.
