ExxonMobil’s affiliates in India supporting the Product Solutions business engage in the marketing, sales and distribution of performance as well as specialty products across chemicals and lubricants businesses. What role you will play in our team

Responsibilities for this position are to provide technical guidance for fired equipment (fired heaters, boilers/HRSGs, flares, thermal oxidizers) design, operation, troubleshooting, optimization, monitoring and reliability improvements across the global fleet for ExxonMobil businesses. The location of this job is the ExxonMobil Bengaluru Technology Center in Bengaluru India. This position includes domestic and international travel to support projects and producing/manufacturing facilities. The role requires working in shifts to provide support across multiple regions.

What you will do

  • Support fired equipment engineering needs across ExxonMobil projects and producing/manufacturing operations
  • Drive site asset improvement in areas of: safety, reliability, environmental performance and equipment capability
  • Technical leadership in projects and producing/manufacturing operations. Applying broad technical and business skills and expertise to solve complex problems.
  • Conduct detailed technical evaluations to address issues with equipment design, operation and performance.
  • Provide quality assurance of fired equipment design on projects.
  • Provide pertinent engineering expertise to complete Root Cause Failure Analyses.
  • Review project and contractor deliverables as requested to ensure compliance with project specifications and design standards.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, HAZOPs, Vendor Qualification and vendor bid evaluations
  • Coordination of communication between India based technical support contractors and ExxonMobil projects and producing/manufacturing operations
  • Provide coaching and constructive guidance to co-workers and site personnel
  • Proactively and continuously grows discipline’s technical expertise in pertinent technologies
  • Interface with Global ExxonMobil Experts to advance combustion technology

About You

  • Bachelor of Technology or Bachelor of Engineering Degree (or higher) in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience on Fired Equipment in oil & gas, refining or petrochemical industries
  • Broad and extensive knowledge of industry fired equipment design standards, specifications, codes and appropriate safety criteria. Including API and NFPA standards.
  • Prior assignments that provide a variety of exposure to global oil & gas operations
  • Experience with fired heater thermal design software
  • Strong analytical and heat transfer engineering skills
  • Strong technical skills in troubleshooting fired equipment
  • Good understanding of plant operations and priorities
  • Combustion design, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and environmental emissions
  • Burner management systems and control systems for fired equipment
  • Materials selection for tubes, supports & refractories
  • Experience with project support, engineering surveillance & shop inspections
  • Strong leadership, influencing, organizational and technical judgment skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills used in the development of standards and reports
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with engineering disciplines, such as Process, Mechanical, Rotating Equipment, Materials, Civil, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and support client needs
  • Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite software programs
  • Willing and able to travel as required, both domestic and international
  • Flexible working in shifts
  • A self-starter that can manage own workload and utilize resources to overcome obstacles.

  • Good understanding of plant operations and priorities
  • Experience with field troubleshooting
  • Experience supporting equipment in an operating environment
  • Vendor knowledge and industry contacts
  • Participated in design reviews, risk assessments, HAZOPs, vendor qualification, and vendor bid evaluations as requested. Experience in coordinating & leading these reviews.
  • Tangible breadth of experience in multiple technical disciplines, in addition to depth of knowledge in fired equipment
  • Preference is to have experience with the different types of fired equipment, but a detailed knowledge of every type of fired equipment is not necessary.
  • Prior assignments that provide a variety of exposure to global oil & gas operations
  • Direct experience working onsite in oil & gas facilities, field engineering and construction
