Role Responsibilities

Join Alberta’s Chief Firearms Office as a Firearms Agent, where your expertise and professionalism will help support firearms owners, businesses, law enforcement partners, and the public. In this impactful role, you’ll contribute to the safe and lawful administration of firearms legislation while delivering exceptional client service and helping maintain public confidence in Alberta’s firearms regulatory framework.

Reporting to the Regional Operations Manager, you will provide operational services for the provincial delivery and management of the federal Firearms Act. The services provided enhance public safety though the responsible administration of firearm licensing, serving a wide variety of stakeholders.

You will undertake and support investigations into the eligibility of firearms licence applicants and holders for the purposes of licensing decisions and suspend firearms licenceslicenses to maintain public safety. You will assist Firearms Officers with complex investigations that result in licensing decisions, including the refusal of licence applications and revocation of firearms licences. In this role you will identify licence eligibility issues, including risks to public safety and violation of the Firearms Act and its regulations, and Part III of the Criminal Code. You will also participate in shooting range inspections, business inspections and work with firearms businesses and clubs.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Working in accordance with the Firearms Act, Canadian Firearms Programs, and other federal and provincial legislation.
• Under guidance of a Firearms Officer, develop appropriate interviewing techniques that would withstand legal scrutiny.
• Contributing to tracking, reporting and evaluation systems for the operational cycle as directed by the Regional Operations Manager.
• Responding to general inquiries related to the Canadian Firearms Program.

Qualifications

Required:

• University graduation in a related field (public policy, public administration, law enforcement, etc.).
  
  

Assets:

• Experience working on complex investigation files in a law enforcement setting.
• Working experience dealing with firearms.
• Working knowledge of the Firearms Act, and the Canadian Firearms Program.
  
  

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
• 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Notes

One permanent position located in Edmonton.

Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours per week.

Security screening is required.

• Final candidates are required to obtain and maintain an Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance conducted by the RCMP.
